IBERDROLA AWARDED AT WORLD FOOTBALL SUMMIT

Iberdrola, recognised at the World Football Summit gala for its work and promotion of women's football

The World Football Summit presented the 'Best Women's Football Initiative' award to Iberdrola "for its outstanding and important contribution" to the development and growth of women's professional football.

The third World Football Summit Industry Awards, held on 24 and 25 September 2018 at the Club Financiero Génova in Madrid, recognised Iberdrola's work with the prize for the Best Initiative for Women's Football. The award cited "its outstanding and important contribution to promoting the development and growth of professional football played by women, achieving recognition by giving its name to a great national league, the Iberdrola League, as well as bringing this sport to a wider audience to inspire new generations to play and follow it".

Ángeles Santamaría, CEO of Iberdrola Spain, explained in her acceptance speech that all the efforts and initiatives that the company has set in motion "have been for the footballers, to improve the conditions they play in, so that we could follow the top national competition, the Iberdrola League, and also the national team across different media". Ángeles Santamaría thanked all the organisations that have allowed Iberdrola to become the main promoter of women in sport for their support: "Thank you all but, above all, thanks to them, the players, because we're making this unstoppable".

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and Iberdrola along with the women's national team celebrated the award received at the World Football Summit Industry Awards, in an event held in the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas during the national side's training. The players celebrated the award by posing in a family photo with Iberdrola Spain CEO Ángeles Santamaría, who thanked the sportswomen for their work and efforts: "This is because of and for them".
