The chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and the Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, and the Minister of Education, Culture and Sport, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, today attended a performance of the children’s play My Clean World by Blanca Marsillach’s theatre company, which took place in the north auditorium of Feria de Madrid (Ifema).
At the end of the show, Galán, Tejerina and Méndez de Vigo had a chance to chat on the stage with five of the 270 children who attended the performance. They answered the questions posed by the company chairman and the ministers about the environment and climate change. Also present at this get-together was the director of Varela Producciones, Blanca Marsillach, the producer of the play.
Iberdrola has incorporated the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) into its business strategy, this event allowed Iberdrola to address two of these goals: number 13, climate action, and number 17, partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society.
As part of its commitment to fighting climate change, the company has set the goal of reducing its emissions by 2030 by 50% from 2007 levels and being carbon-neutral in 2050. Since 2000, Iberdrola has succeeded in reducing its specific emissions in Europe by 75%. As a result of this strategy, the company's emissions are currently 70% lower than those of its competitors.
About ‘My Clean World’
My Clean World is a musical about caring for the environment that was written for a family audience. It aims to increase the audience members’ awareness of the need to fight climate change and slow down the degradation of the planet.
The production features seven original songs and a karaoke song in which the characters from the story – Cortés the bull from Seville, Iggy the penguin, Penelope the squirrel and Mother Earth – seek to make the audience aware of ecological values.
During 2016, My Clean World was seen by more than 7,280 school children in Madrid and it also travelled to the Colegio Nuestra Señora del Pilar in Tetuan for Moving for Climate NOW, a bicycle journey of over 1,000 kilometres to the Climate Summit in Marrakech. Last March, it was performed in the Spanish province of Biscay in front of 400 school children during Iberdrola Week, which ended in the celebration of the group’s General Shareholders’ Meeting.
