The Iberdrola U program reaches almost 200,000 students, 20,000 teachers and 1,500 trainees, and is based on five lines of action: support to chairs, development of R&D projects, training through student scholarships, internal training of the Iberdrola employees and support to young entrepreneurs, with the focus on encouraging the development of renewable technologies, improving the biodiversity and increasing the efficiency of the energy system.

Specifically, through the Young Entrepreneurs initiative, in 2017-2018 Iberdrola held a total of nine hackathons or bootcamps attended by 1,000 entrepreneurs and with the collaboration of over 200 mentors. Also, more than 23 workshops were run and over 3,200 mentoring hours were provided.

The group also continues to provide continuity to the following projects:

  • Practical programs aimed at vocational training students, as well as university students, with the aim of completing their education in the professional environment. In total, 544 vocational training students and 858 university students worldwide have had the opportunity to do their practical training in Iberdrola España, ScottishPower, Avangrid, Neoenergia and Iberdrola México.
  • Development plan of the program for employing junior professionals, where in 2018 a large group of recent graduates were employed in the various areas of the company in Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The main aim of the Iberdrola International Master's Degree Scholarship program is to train the highest level professionals in fields strategic to our sector. It is an example of the company's commitment to promoting talent, excellence in training and research as mainstays of employability and knowledge.

This program is aimed at students in the final year of their degree, or recent graduates, from Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil or Mexico who wish to continue their studies in different areas of knowledge, such as engineering, smart networks, renewable energy, sustainability, energy and environment, information technology, big data, cyber security, etc.

It also promotes innovation through the Research Grants Program, aimed at young researchers who want to work within the framework of a Spanish university or research centre.

These training encouragement programs were created in 2010, and since then the number of scholarships has grown by over 300%.

Thanks to all these initiatives, the Iberdrola group has contributed to training  almost 4,000 university students in the last five years, which is an example of the company's commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 4, which is committed to quality education.
