Iberdrola has awarded Ormazabal with a contract for the supply of automatic transfer switches for transformer stations in the STAR project. Medium-voltage cells will be installed at these centres along with remotely managed panels that will make the grid even smarter.

The STAR project is an ambitious initiative by Iberdrola that aims to transform the technology in the field of smart grids allowing 10.6 million traditional meters to be replaced by new smart equipment and 84,000 transformer centres to be adapted.

This contract has been awarded for an annual sum of more than EUR 10 million and will last for 24 months.

Iberdrola has given the 2016 Supplier of the Year Awards, with the purpose of recognising all initiatives associated with sustainable development, quality, innovation, corporate social responsibility, diversity and equal opportunities, job creation and occupational risk prevention.

During his intervention, Ignacio Galán, Chairman of Iberdrola, mentioned that suppliers are key in the implementation of the company's investment plan of over 25,000 million euros until the year 2020, “mainly in electricity transmission and distribution networks, regulated generation and renewable energies, with a strong commitment to offshore wind power", to which new products and services will be added for the company's customers, "showing our commitment to automation and digitisation, with the purpose of improving efficiency and quality".

Iberdrola ended the 2016 financial year with a record figure for its purchases of goods and services, with 9.884 billion euros from around 18,000 suppliers in the last year.
