CYBERSECURITY ON VACATION

This summer, take cybersecurity on vacation with you

During our holidays we seek to relax and disconnect from our daily lives, but we must not forget that it is the time of the year when cybercriminals can take advantage of our disconnection from the madding crowd to 'fill their boots' at our expense.

The rise in cyberattacks is currently one of the biggest worries for governments and companies around the world as they impact local businesses, big companies and individuals alike. These cybernetic attacks increase substantially in the summer as cybercriminals take advantage of the holidays of businesses without sufficient security systems and individuals who haven't taken time to prepare the devices they will take on holiday with them. Cybercriminals take advantage of these open doors to attack equipment.

Small oversights when publishing more account information on social networks, booking holidays on an unofficial website or making bank transfers while connected to public Wi-Fi are examples of situations that may occur in the summer period and that are associated with some risks that may affect our security by making us vulnerable to mobile hacking or malware (obtaining personal information, theft of the device, fraudulent use of the data obtained, identity theft, etc.).

A country-by-country comparison reveals that the US is the country that receives the most cyberattacks in the world, followed by the United Kingdom and Spain. In our country, cybernetic attacks rose by 130% in 2017 compared to 2016.

Furthermore, according to the National Cybersecurity Institute, in Spain 110,000 systems are attacked daily. Most of these attacks are centred on bank fraud and credit card cloning.

Just as we take the time to pack our suitcases before going on a trip, it is also important that we dedicate a few minutes to prepare the devices that we are going to take with us, as well as to take a number of precautions to ensure that we have a smooth holiday.

If you want some suggestions to avoid cybernetic attacks, keep reading and... take cybersecurity on holiday with you!
