Em 2008, como parte de seu processo de internacionalização, o grupo Iberdrola começou a trabalhar com a equipe da ScottishPower Renewables
Link externo, abra em uma nova aba. no desenvolvimento de um centro de operação de energias renováveis (CORE) no Reino Unido para supervisionar os ativos eólicos da filial britânica. Desta forma foi como surgiu o Remote Control Centre (RCC), instalado no parque eólico de Whitelee — o maior da Europa naquele momento —, a poucas milhas de Glasgow e inaugurado em 2011.
O centro gerencia atualmente 37 parques eólicos onshore e dois offshore, os quais perfazem mais de 2 GW de potência ativa de energia renovável. Para isso, supervisiona em tempo real durante 24 horas/365 dias do ano mais de 250.000 dados graças a um sistema SCADA que maneja mais de um milhão de variáveis por minuto.
Além disso, o RCC está conectado com os demais centros de controle de energias renováveis do grupo por meio da plataforma CORE, o que torna possível a gestão e a análise centralizadas de toda a informação.

Maximizar o potencial produtor dos parques eólicos
O objetivo prioritário do RCC é garantir que os parques eólicos gerenciados pela ScottishPower Renewables estejam operacionais durante mais de 97% do tempo.
Equilibrar a rede elétrica e oferecer serviços auxiliares
O RCC trabalha em estreita vinculação com o operador do sistema elétrico do Reino Unido — National Grid — o que ajuda a equilibrar a rede nacional e proporciona serviços auxiliares como potência reativa ou resposta em frequência. Além disso, isso gera fluxos adicionais de receitas para o negócio.
