Promoting a balanced representation of men and women is one of the Iberdrola group's fundamental principles. This was established as a firm commitment in the Equal Opportunity and Reconciliation Policy, approved by the Board of Directors in 2016.

In the text, Iberdrola makes clear its intention to "achieve balanced representation in the various bodies and decision-making strata, ensuring that both genders participate in conditions of equal opportunities in all spheres of consultation and decision-making within the group". And to achieve this it undertakes to "guarantee the principle of equal opportunities in the professional development of both genders within the group, removing any obstacles that might impede or hinder their career for reasons of gender".

Similarly, in its Boards of Directors Diversity and Member Selection Policy, approved in 2019, Iberdrola specifies that board members must be selected without any type of bias and particularly those that "may hinder the appointment of members of the board and interfere with the group's target that female board members will account for at least 40 % of the total by 2022".

IBERDROLA IN THE FIGHT FOR GENDER EQUALITY

But the company does not restrict itself to reducing the gender gap in administrative functions, but also for the diversity to extend to intermediate management, technical posts and access to employment. Iberdrola is thereby moving forward in its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, specifically SDG 5, which focuses on the fight for gender equality since it is, as well as being a fundamental human right, the essential base for achieving a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.

The progress made by the group on this subject has been acknowledged at global level: Iberdrola has been included for the fourth year in a row in the 2021 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index. The group is once again among the leading companies in its commitment to transparency in information on gender issues and progress in equality between women and men.

In Iberdrola, the percentage of women in executive positions is ever-increasing. The group also has a CEO of Iberdrola España — Ángeles Santamaría — and over 200 female directors in charge of strategic areas, such as renewable business, global taxation, European affairs, internal audit and compliance, among others.
