Degree in Law, Economics and Business Studies from the Instituto Católico de Administración y Dirección de Empresas (ICADE) of the Comillas Pontifical University (Madrid) and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Escuela de Dirección del Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa de la Universidad de Navarra (IESE Business School) in Barcelona.

He has been lead director of Iberdrola, S.A., an independent director of Iberdrola España, S.A. (Sociedad Unipersonal) and of Iberdrola Renovables, S.A., as well as chair of the Appointments and Remuneration Committee of the latter company.
Noteworthy experience in other industries
Founded Grupo SIRO, now Cerealto, in 1991 with his wife, Lucía Urbán. He chaired this company for 31 years. Apart from the food sector, he also has extensive experience in the finance and venture capital sectors: he has been an advisory director of Rabobank in Spain and Europe, as well as director of CO2 Revolution, S.L., of Banco Urquijo Sabadell Banca Privada, S.A. of Digial Cinegetics, S.L. and of Sociedad para el Desarrollo Industrial de Castilla y León, Sociedad de Capital Riesgo, S.A. (SODICAL, now Ade Capital Social, Sociedad de Capital Riesgo de Régimen Común, S.A.), as well as member of the Executive Committee and trustee of Fundación SERES.
