Initiatives for SMEs
Find out more about our programmes to boost sustainability in small and medium-sized enterprises
At Iberdrola we attach great importance to our suppliers’ sustainable practices, and SMEs are fundamental to this commitment. Find out about all our initiatives to strengthen the sustainability of the small and medium-sized companies we work with.

We offer tools that help small and medium-sized enterprises play a full and active role in the energy transition.
In recent years, Iberdrola has developed an innovative strategy to support the creation and consolidation of new sustainable, transparent, and ethical business projects. It has strengthened its commitment to SME suppliers through various initiatives that seek to improve the profile of small and medium-sized companies as drivers of sustainable development, among other objectives. Some of these initiatives are presented below.
-
4th Edition of the "Sustainable Suppliers" Training Programme
In January 2026, Iberdrola joined the 4th Edition of the United Nations Global Compact Sustainable Suppliers Training Programme, with the aim of continuing to promote sustainability and capacity building across its supplier base.
This fourth edition commenced on 18 March 2026 and is providing more than 900 Iberdrola suppliers worldwide who have confirmed their participation with an excellent opportunity to strengthen their sustainability capabilities, gain insight into international best practices, and advance the integration of sustainability criteria into their business activities.
Through this initiative, participants can enhance their knowledge, respond to increasing regulatory and market requirements, and contribute more effectively to the development of sustainable, responsible and resilient supply chains.
The programme was very well received in its previous three editions. In total, 819 suppliers completed the training programme, representing the largest contribution of participants among all the companies promoting the initiative and accounting for more than 16% of all suppliers trained. In addition, at a global level, more than 90% of participants considered that the programme met their expectations and delivered value to their organisations.
Over the six-month duration of the programme, from March to September, participating suppliers will have access to online courses, live and recorded training sessions, practical guidance, templates for developing policies and codes, as well as case studies and examples of business best practices. Upon completion of all modules, suppliers will receive a certificate recognising their participation and successful completion of the programme. The programme aims to build suppliers' sustainability capabilities by aligning their practices with the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact—covering human rights, labour standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption—and with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The training is provided free of charge and includes four modules covering general sustainability concepts, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the key topics grouped around the four thematic areas of the Global Compact Principles. It also incorporates content related to business internationalisation, available incentives and non-financial reporting.
The continuation of this initiative reinforces Iberdrola's commitment to environmental, social and governance sustainability throughout its supply chain. As a prerequisite for establishing a commercial relationship with the company, suppliers must accept the Supplier Code of Conduct, which sets out principles and commitments relating to human rights, equal opportunities, diversity and inclusion, occupational health and safety, fraud and corruption prevention, and environmental protection, among other matters.
In its fourth edition, the Sustainable Suppliers Training Programme has attracted the participation of more than 6,700 suppliers from 87 countries. The initiative is promoted by the UN Global Compact Spain, in collaboration with the ICO Foundation and ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, and is supported by 54 major Spanish companies that are members of UN Global Compact Spain.

"Sustainability for CEOs and Executives" training programme
In collaboration with the UN Global Compact Spain, we offer a pioneering training plan with exclusive content on sustainability and incentives for CEOs and managers of small and medium-sized enterprises.
In these video sessions, the main trends, opportunities, regulations and practical actions on sustainability are discussed in depth so that CEOs or an SME manager can integrate them into their business. We also included various additional resources to further explore these aspects.
