10/12/2025 - 11:49 UTC +01:00Iberdrola builds its first photovoltaic plants in the Valencian Community in Spain Iberdrola España , the Group's subsidiary in the country, has begun construction of its first two photovoltaic plants in the Valencian Community, in eastern Spain, which will involve an investment of €252M and will have a total capacity of 366 megawatts (MW), helping to increasing the region's energy autonomy. The Cofrentes I (184 MW) and Ayora 1 (182 MW) plants, both in the province of Valencia, will generate more than 650,000 MW/h a year of clean, competitive and local energy capable of supplying approximately 200,000 homes and preventing the release of 52,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere each year. The Cofrentes I and Ayora 1 facilities have different projects to ensure coexistence with biodiversity . Work will also be done on areas of habitats that are in the region’s interest, which will involve the recovery of abandoned land near the facilities. Agroforestry perimeter plantations are also being considered among other measures to integrate the photovoltaic plants into the landscape. These actions are part of Iberdrola's Convive Programme , which was created as a continuous improvement plan that integrates all the initiatives and partnerships for the coexistence of renewable energies and their contribution to socio-economic development and the conservation of biodiversity. 10/12/2025 - 10:17 UTC +01:00Iberdrola Spain collaborates on a corrosion protection project for offshore infrastructure Iberdrola España, the Group's subsidiary in the country , together with the companies GALEA and MENDIETA and the TECNALIA research and technological development centre, have launched a project aimed at developing new sustainable anti-corrosion protection systems for metal structures in offshore environments. This corrosion affects turbines, towers and bases, drastically reducing their useful life and increasing the need for frequent repairs and replacements, significantly raising maintenance costs and affecting turbine efficiency, thereby reducing energy generation and project profitability. It also compromises the structural integrity of the infrastructure, putting the marine environment at risk. This project will help minimise corrosion in marine environments through a duplex protection system that combines zinc coatings and sustainable organic finishes, such as cork, and 0% VOC (volatile organic compound) coatings to increase the service life of metal structures in marine environments. In addition, European regulations establish the promotion and development of coatings with low or zero emissions. You can read the full story in the Iberdrola Spain Media Room. READ MORE

04/12/2025 - 10:22 UTC +01:00Iberdrola to invest €14B in electricity grids in the United Kingdom Iberdrola's British subsidiary, ScottishPower, today received approval from the regulator, Ofgem, to invest around €14 billion in its networks in the United Kingdom, mainly in new interconnections between Scotland and England and Wales. The British regulator today also approved the remuneration framework applicable to electricity transmission until 2031, known as RIIO T3, following a consultation with all stakeholders that has lasted nearly two years. These new investments, which will be developed until 2031, constitute the largest Iberdrola Group investment in its history and will more than triple those made in this business in the previous regulatory period, in line with the electrification targets set out in the UK government's Clean Power 2030 Plan. The main projects in this investment programme are two new high-voltage direct current underwater connectors between Scotland and England, Eastern Link 1 and Eastern Link 4. Together with another submarine cable between Scotland and Wales, Western Link 2, these three projects will transport more than 500 kV of power through 1,100 kilometres of underwater cable and will require six converter substations to be built. The plan will increase the grid's capacity to incorporate new electricity demand, promoting industrialisation and economic growth, enable the incorporation of new renewable capacity and reduce the impact of current system restrictions on electricity bills. It is estimated that the plan will have a positive impact of €2.3B a year on the country's economy and will create some 12,000 jobs in the value chain. The company has already launched a procurement plan for suppliers worth more than €6B. With the approval of these investments, the United Kingdom is consolidating its position as the Iberdrola Group's main investment destination, with a total of €20B between 2025 and 2028, mainly in electricity grids. Iberdrola Executive Chairman Ignacio Galán said ‘The increase in electricity demand in all industries, driven by more activity and the electrification of power use, requires huge investments in new infrastructure. This plan, the largest ever Iberdrola has undertaken, is the end result of a clear energy policy on the part of the British government and constructive dialogue with the regulator, and will enable us to continue building modern, flexible and resilient grids that allow us to meet growing demand, guarantee energy security and include more clean energy.’ READ MORE
