Avangrid, the subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in the United States, is partnering with Clarkson University on a research project aimed at advancing the modernisation of electricity networks and strengthening the resilience of the energy system.
The initiative focuses on three strategic areas for electrification: network capacity, electric vehicle charging and battery energy storage.
The partnership seeks to develop practical, data-driven solutions to improve network planning, optimise investment and facilitate the integration of new electricity demand. Key areas of work include analysing network reinforcement needs, studying electric vehicle charging patterns and assessing the role of battery storage in improving supply reliability and reducing congestion.
The project reflects Iberdrola’s commitment to innovation and to collaboration with the academic sector in accelerating the development of smarter, more flexible infrastructure ready for the energy transition. Through initiatives such as this, the company is helping to advance key solutions for decarbonisation and the transformation of the networks of the future.
