Avangrid advances the modernisation of New York’s electricity network with Fraser substation expansion

NYSEG, Avangrid’s electricity distribution company and a subsidiary of Iberdrola Group in the United States, has completed upgrades to the Fraser substation in New York State, marking a key milestone in its project to reinforce the electricity network in the southern Oneonta area.

The company has expanded the facility with a new 115-kilovolt (kV) substation yard, which will allow several high-voltage transmission lines to be connected and improve the transmission of electricity to other substations in the area. It has also added a new transformer to the existing 345 kV infrastructure to meet the future energy needs of residential and business customers.

The modernisation of the Fraser substation is the first phase of NYSEG’s southern Oneonta area improvement project. Upcoming work includes new transmission lines and further upgrades to the Delhi substation, with the entire project expected to be completed in 2027.

The project will help increase supply reliability, strengthen infrastructure resilience and meet growing electricity demand in the region.
