Avangrid distributors demonstrate strong preparedness and response during major snowstorm

Central Maine Power (CMP), New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and United Illuminating (UI), electric distribution companies of Avangrid, a subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in the United States, responded effectively to the major snowstorm that recently impacted the eastern region of the country, supported by comprehensive preparation and coordinated restoration efforts.

Despite being the most severe snowstorm to affect the region in the past decade, Avangrid’s teams mobilised rapidly, activated their storm response plans and restored power to thousands of customers.

In advance of winter weather events, each of the company’s distribution utilities conducts annual emergency response training. These sessions review preparedness protocols, reinforce best practices for the winter season and outline operational coordination strategies.

The successful response reflects not only the dedication and professionalism of the teams, but also the continued investments made by the Iberdrola Group to strengthen grid resilience.
