Avangrid, the US subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group, through its subsidiary New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), has begun modernisation works at the South Perry substation, located in Wyoming County, and at the Meyer substation in Dansville, both in New York State.
The modernisation works are part of Avangrid’s €18.6 billion investment plan in electricity networks in the United States to upgrade critical grid infrastructure through to 2030, with the aim of meeting growing electricity demand and protecting communities from extreme weather events.
The works at the South Perry substation, valued at more than €75 million, involve replacing infrastructure that is several decades old and will increase the reliability of electricity supply for more than 8,500 local customers.
In addition, Avangrid will invest more than $113 million in the modernisation of the Meyer substation, which will enhance energy capacity, grid resilience and supply reliability for approximately 6,740 customers in the town of Dansville and nearby communities through its distribution lines.
