Iberdrola and Buglife are promoting a network of habitats for pollinators at electricity substations in Scotland

ScottishPower Energy Networks, ScottishPower distributor, a subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in the UK, has partnered with the conservation organisation Buglife to launch the Pollinator B-Lines project and transform Scotland’s Central Belt into a connected network of habitats featuring wildflowers and nesting sites.

The aim is to create “green corridors” that facilitate the movement and survival of bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, by reusing unused land at electricity substations and transforming it into areas conducive to biodiversity.

The collaboration forms part of the company’s Nature Action Plan, integrating biodiversity enhancement into the management and operation of electricity infrastructure. It also includes long-term management plans to ensure that the habitats created are maintained and continue to deliver environmental and community benefits over time.
