Iberdrola consolidates its position as a benchmark in Brazil's electricity sector with seven awards from the Association of Distribution Companies

  • Abradee (the Brazilian Association of Electricity Distribution Companies) highlights the Group's performance in an edition in which its subsidiary Neoenergia received 11 nominations
  • The awards come at a time of strong investment momentum: the Group has announced investments of 50 billion reais between 2026 and 2030, close to €9 billion

Iberdrola is consolidating its leadership as a benchmark group in Brazil's electricity sector following the success of its subsidiary Neoenergia at the 2026 Abradee Awards. The company received seven awards from 11 nominations, including the highest national recognition presented by the Brazilian Association of Electricity Distribution Companies (Abradee).

Neoenergia Cosern was named Brazil's best distribution company for the second consecutive year, while Neoenergia Elektro came second. In addition, the Group's companies were the only finalists in the Management Quality and Innovation Management categories, both of which were won by Neoenergia Elektro.

The awards also highlighted the regional leadership of the Group's distribution companies. Neoenergia Cosern was named the best distribution company in the Northeast, Neoenergia Elektro received the award for the Southeast and Neoenergia Brasília was recognised as the best distribution company in the North-Central West region. In addition, Neoenergia Cosern took first place in the Economic and Financial Management category.

These awards come at a time of strong investment momentum for Iberdrola in Brazil. Through Neoenergia, the Group has announced investments of 50 billion reais between 2026 and 2030, close to €9 billion, to expand, modernise and digitalise electricity networks in the concession areas where its five distribution companies operate: Neoenergia Coelba (Bahia), Neoenergia Pernambuco, Neoenergia Elektro (São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul), Neoenergia Cosern (Rio Grande do Norte) and Neoenergia Brasília (Federal District).

Almost half of this investment will be allocated to expanding electricity infrastructure to meet growing demand and support the electrification of the economy. The remainder will drive the digitalisation of networks, improve supply quality, strengthen system resilience and reduce losses.

According to the Brazilian Association of Infrastructure and Basic Industries (Abdib), Neoenergia is the private company that has invested the most in infrastructure in Brazil over the past four years. In 2025 alone, it allocated 10.1 billion reais (around €1.7 billion) to new investments, mainly in the distribution business.

Neoenergia operates in 18 states and the Federal District and is active in electricity generation, transmission, distribution and retail. Its five distribution companies provide services to around 17 million customers, representing a population of almost 40 million people. The company has 4,200 MW of installed capacity and operates more than 8,000 kilometres of transmission lines.

Neoenergia's track record at the Abradee Awards

Organised by the Brazilian Association of Electricity Distribution Companies (Abradee), these awards recognise the companies that perform best each year in areas including service quality, innovation, management and customer service, among others, and are considered the most important awards in the country's electricity sector.

Neoenergia is once again matching its results from the previous edition of the Abradee Awards, when it received seven awards and an honourable mention. In 2025, Neoenergia Cosern was recognised as Brazil's best distribution company and as the best in the Northeast, consolidating its position as a benchmark in the sector. It also received an honourable mention in Health and Safety.

Meanwhile, Neoenergia Brasília took first place in the Performance Evolution category. Neoenergia Elektro was recognised as the best distribution company in the Southeast and won awards for Management Quality, Innovation Management and Operational Management.
