- The work, scheduled to continue until 2031, will increase infrastructure capacity to meet growing electricity demand and improve resilience to extreme weather events.
- This will be complemented by investments of more than €8.5 billion in electricity distribution networks in the United States by 2028.
Through Avangrid, Iberdrola will renew more than 230 electricity transmission lines, covering a total length of 1,300 kilometres, in New York State. The work, scheduled to continue until 2031, will strengthen essential infrastructure and prepare the grid to meet the future needs of the electricity system.
The implementation of this plan will help improve the reliability and resilience of the grid in the face of extreme weather events and adapt it to meet growing electricity demand. In this way, the company will help ensure a secure and efficient electricity supply for homes and businesses while supporting the economic development of communities across the region.
These transmission network projects will be complemented by Iberdrola's planned investments of more than €8.5 billion in electricity distribution networks in the United States by 2028, aimed at continuing to strengthen and modernise its electricity infrastructure. Overall, the company has a regulated asset base (RAB) of nearly €16 billion in the country, across the states of New York, Maine, Connecticut and Massachusetts, of which more than €4 billion relates to transmission networks.
Iberdrola will continue to strengthen its presence in the US electricity networks sector, where it is developing transmission projects in New York and Maine and operates the NECEC interconnection with Canada. The company expects its regulated asset base in networks, including transmission and distribution, to reach around €30 billion by 2031.
Iberdrola operates in the United States through Avangrid, which has operations in 25 states. The company operates seven electricity distribution utilities, supplying more than 3.4 million customers in New York and New England, nearly 100 generation facilities and more than 173,000 kilometres of electricity lines. With more than 11,000 MW of installed capacity and 8,300 employees, Avangrid is working to modernise the electricity grid, strengthen its resilience and support the economic development of the communities in which it operates.
The United States is also one of the Group's strategic markets, where it plans to invest €16 billion by 2028, representing almost one-third of its total investment. Of this amount, €12 billion will be allocated to networks and €4 billion to generation and customers.
