Iberdrola strengthens its commitment to energy efficiency education in Brazil

Neoenergia, a subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in Brazil, is driving participation by educational institutions in the 2026 edition of the National Energy Efficiency Olympiad (ONEE), an initiative that promotes responsible energy consumption, sustainability and innovation among young people through gamification and educational challenges.

ONEE is promoted by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) through its Energy Efficiency Programme, and coordinated by the Brazilian Association of Electric Power Distributors (Abradee). It brings together Neoenergia Group's distribution companies alongside another 43 electricity utilities, reinforcing sector-wide collaboration to bring energy efficiency closer to students and teachers at public and private schools throughout Brazil.

As part of this drive, Neoenergia is developing educational activities in schools to foster a culture of safe and mindful electricity use. These activities aim to connect learning with the real-world challenges of the energy transition, involving both pupils and teachers in content related to efficiency, sustainability and innovation.

The olympiad has become Brazil's largest initiative dedicated to energy efficiency education, with more than 490,000 students taking part, over 8,500 schools involved and a presence in more than 1,000 municipalities.
