Iberdrola to supply electricity to Amazon data centres in Oregon

  • The company is expanding its partnership with the tech giant, with which it has already signed agreements for projects in Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain for 68,100 GWh.
  • The energy will come from the Oregon Trail Solar photovoltaic project, with an investment of $100M.

Iberdrola, through its US subsidiary Avangrid, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amazon to supply clean electricity from a new photovoltaic project, Oregon Trail Solar. The 57 MW facility will be located in Gilliam County, Oregon, and will supply the tech giant's data centres in the region.

This contract is in addition to others already signed by Amazon with the Iberdrola Group for projects in Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain. In total, the US multinational has contracted 68,100 GWh of renewable energy from Iberdrola.

With a capacity of 57 MW and an investment of $100M, Oregon Trail Solar will consist of approximately 100,000 solar panels and will begin operating in 2027.

This is the second agreement between Avangrid and Amazon in the US’s northwest and follows on from a previous one, which includes the 98.4 MW Leaning Juniper IIA wind project, also in Gilliam County. The companies are working together on similar initiatives in Illinois, Ohio and North Carolina.
