Ignacio Galán highlights to Macron the key role of electrification in European competitiveness

Iberdrola’s Executive Chairman, Ignacio Galán, held a bilateral meeting with the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, during the French President’s State visit to Spain, held on 29 and 30 September.

During the meeting, Galán shared with Macron his vision of the importance of the importance of accelerating the electrification of the European economy in order to strengthen energy security, improve industrial competitiveness and advance decarbonisation. The Iberdrola Chairman also highlighted the company’s commitment to France, where it manages the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, a €2.4 billion investment that is an example of how the energy transition contributes to industrial development, job creation and Europe’s energy autonomy. He also expressed Iberdrola’s willingness to continue collaborating with France on the development of energy infrastructures and on promoting electrification as a driver of economic growth.

The bilateral meeting took place after a working breakfast organised by the French Embassy with a small group of business leaders from strategic sectors. In addition, Galán attended yesterday’s State dinner hosted by Their Majesties the King and Queen at the Royal Palace, which was attended by prominent representatives from the political, economic and business spheres of both countries.
