Today, Ignacio Galán, Chairman of Iberdrola, received the Duke of Ahumada Award for excellence in corporate security, given by the Civil Guard. He received the award from the Director-General of the Civil Guard, José Manuel Holgado Merino, during the conference "Security as a core element of the company's strategy and its added value".

The purpose of this award given by the Civil Guard is to recognise Iberdrola's commitment to excellence in security, an essential factor for the company, which has 9,000 employees, 11 million electricity and gas supply points and almost 95,000 transformer substations and over 2,500 facilities in Spain only, including wind farms, hydroelectric power, thermal power, nuclear power and cogeneration plants.

All of these infrastructures have their own self-protection plan and an emergency drill is carried out in all of the facilities at least once a year.

The Director-General of the Civil Guard stated that "Iberdrola Spain's Security Department is a reference for all other security departments, for its commitment to security as a comprehensive dimension and for its technical capacity and constant innovation".

To this end, he highlighted some of the practices carried out at Iberdrola to guarantee business continuity and minimise risks and vulnerabilities, thanks to a multi-disciplinary team that has been trained by the company on security matters and issues.

Moreover, Ignacio Galán thanked the Civil Guard for this recognition and remembered that "the commitment to security is an essential part of the values and principles Iberdrola has upheld for over 115 years".

"Iberdrola sees excellence in security as one of the most important objectives, which is in the centre of all of its operations and to which it allocates all of the necessary resources to protect people and critical infrastructures against potential emergency scenarios", added the Chairman of Iberdrola, who also talked about the incredible speed at which information technologies are progressing, shifting cyber-security to the forefront.

To finish his speech, Ignacio Galán thanked the Civil Guard for its great work, self-sacrifice, dedication and values.
