Iberdrola brought the evening of its 125th anniversary celebrations to a close with a spectacular drone show in Bilbao, the largest ever staged in Spain, featuring 1,500 drones, which could be seen from various points across the Basque capital between 11.00 pm and 11.30 pm yesterday.

Following the music festival held in Doña Casilda Park, featuring performances by Juanes, Antonio Orozco, Rigoberta Bandini and Süne, thousands of drones took centre stage in an aerial display lasting around 20 minutes. During this time, various large-scale 2D and 3D light displays were projected onto the sky above Bilbao, in a meticulously choreographed display synchronised with music and visual effects designed for the occasion.

The show highlighted some of the most significant milestones in Iberdrola’s history, such as its global expansion from its roots in Bilbao. Through the light displays, the drones recreated images associated with the company, such as electricity infrastructure, and highlighted its social commitment.

Mount Artxanda, Avenida de las Universidades, the area around the Euskalduna Bridge, Plaza Euskadi and Plaza Txema Aguirre brought together tens of thousands of people who watched this show, powered by 100% renewable energy.

Throughout the day, the public had access to information services, areas where food and drink could be purchased, medical assistance, toilets, facilities adapted for people with reduced mobility, a children’s play area and a ‘Punto Violeta’ (a safe haven for young people).

In addition, a special cleaning, maintenance and gardening operation was in place throughout the day.

125 Years of Light

This celebration forms part of the “125 Light Years” programme, through which Iberdrola is marking its anniversary throughout 2026 with initiatives aimed at employees, customers, shareholders and the general public. Key highlights include concerts in Madrid (27 June), featuring Lenny Kravitz, Manuel Carrasco, Ana Mena and Álvaro de Luna, and in Valencia (28 November), featuring Estopa and Mafalda Cardenal, alongside exhibitions, social events and the illumination of iconic buildings.
