  • GRI
Global Reporting Initiative. The top global standard for preparing sustainability reports in those companies that wish to assess their economic, environmental and social performance. This independent institution was created in 1997 as a joint project between PNUMA and CERES (Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies). Its aim is to enhance quality in the preparation of sustainability reports and put them at the same level as financial reports in terms of comparability, rigour, credibility, regularity and verifiability. To do so, it relies on the active participation of representatives from organisations involved in human rights, labour rights, research, the environment, etc.

  • Green energy
IBERDROLA refers to "green energy" as coming exclusively from 100% renewable energy sources, which are characterized by their maximum respect for the environment and by avoiding emissions of CO2 and other polluting gases. IBERDROLA green energy is certified in origin through Renewable Energy Certificates and in the commercial process by an external, independent body.
    Spanish: Energía verde
  • Greenhouse effect
An increase in temperature in the atmosphere closest to the Earth's crust, brought on by the difficulty of radiant heat dissipation due to the presence of a layer of carbon monoxide from industrial emissions and deforestation. The carbon biogeochemical cycle naturally controls the transfer of this element among the Earth, the oceans and the atmosphere.

    Spanish: Efecto invernadero
  • Greenhouse gas emissions
In the climate change context, emissions refer to the release of greenhouse gases and/or their precursors and aerosols into the atmosphere over a specified area and period of time.
Spanish: Emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero
  • Greenhouse gases (GHGs)
Gases in the atmosphere that can retain heat radiating from the Earth outward, which therefore accentuate the greenhouse effect that triggers climate change.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) plays a leading role because it is one of the gases for which emissions have increased the most in recent decades and because it lasts for a long time in the atmosphere (50-100 years), for which reason it is particularly influential as a GHG. The temperature is approximately 15º C thanks to the "natural" greenhouse effect produced by CO2, water vapour and methane. The problem lies in the accentuation of this greenhouse effect by the gradual increase in emissions of CO2 and other GHGs due to human economic and industrial activities.

Spanish: Gases de efecto invernadero (GEI)
  • Group of companies
Group of companies in which one of them (the controlling company) holds or may hold, whether directly or indirectly, control of one or more other companies (the dependent companies).

    Spanish: Grupo de sociedades
