Avangrid expands its National Training Centre in Oregon to strengthen technician training

Avangrid, the Iberdrola Group’s subsidiary in the United States, has begun expanding and modernising its National Training Center (NTC), located in Sherman County, Oregon.

The project will strengthen technical and safety training for its employees throughout the year and help prepare the skilled workforce needed to support the growth of it generation facilities and respond to rising electricity demand.

The project includes expanding the facilities by approximately 232m² and enclosing a 30-foot fall-protection tower, allowing it to be used regardless of weather conditions.

The centre provides hands-on training in the maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment associated with wind farms, solar plants and high-voltage installations. It also uses virtual and mixed-reality tools to simulate different operational scenarios.

The centre began operating in 2024, and since then around 350 new and existing Avangrid technicians have taken part in its training programmes.
