Iberdrola boosts energy efficiency in Brazil, benefiting more than 291,000 customers

Neoenergia, a subsidiary of Iberdrola Group in Brazil, continues to make progress with its energy efficiency initiatives to promote more responsible use of electricity and generate savings for consumers.

Between 2024 and 2026, its energy efficiency actions have benefited more than 249,000 customers in low-income communities by replacing around 1.15 million light bulbs and more than 2,400 refrigerators with more efficient equipment.

The measures, implemented on an ongoing basis through the Energy Efficiency Programme of the Brazilian National Electricity Regulatory Agency (Aneel), have also reached more than 5,300 public and charitable institutions, such as hospitals, schools, nurseries, care homes and health centres.

Efficiency improvements also extend to public spaces. Neoenergia has upgraded 83,000 streetlights with LED technology in 119 Brazilian municipalities. These are complemented by initiatives such as Vale Luz, which allows recyclable waste to be exchanged for discounts on electricity bills and which, since 2024, has collected 7,600 tonnes of materials, generating nearly €700,000 in discounts for customers.

These actions are complemented by awareness-raising projects on responsible consumption, which have reached approximately 900,000 people since 2024 through classrooms and mobile educational units.
