Iberdrola completes installation of the 95 foundations for its East Anglia THREE windfarm

ScottishPower, Iberdrola’s UK subsidiary, has reached a major milestone in the construction of the East Anglia THREE offshore windfarm by completing the installation of the 95 wind turbine foundations off the coast of Suffolk.

With an investment of £4 billion (more than €4.67 billion), it is the largest offshore windfarm developed by ScottishPower to date. Once operational, the windfarm will have an installed capacity of 1,400MW of clean, home-grown energy.

The completion of the foundations marks the end of a key phase of offshore construction. The monopiles installed, weighing between 1,200 and 1,800 tonnes, measuring between 67 and 84 metres in height and up to 10.6 metres in diameter, are the largest ever installed from a jack-up vessel in Europe. Installation has also been completed on the 95 transition pieces, structures measuring 20 metres in height, eight metres in diameter and weighing more than 400 tonnes.

Once completed, East Anglia THREE will generate enough clean electricity to supply more than 1.3 million homes, helping to strengthen the UK’s energy security and advance the country’s electrification.
