Iberdrola wins the Feder aid auction for energy storage

Iberdrola España, the Group’s subsidiary in the country, has been awarded more than €170 million to build storage, battery and pumping projects from the first call for grants for innovative energy storage projects co-funded by FEDER 2021-2027 and awarded by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE).

Specifically, the company will allocate €130 million to co-finance eleven BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) batteries, €22 million to three industrial thermal storage projects and €18 million to expanding the capacity of a pumping project.

Iberdrola is promoting efficient energy storage as one of the key levers for electrification. To do so, it is committed to large-scale storage through pumped hydroelectric plants and to small-scale storage through Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), in Spanish Sistemas de Almacenamiento de Energía con Baterías (SAEB).
