Nicole Wiggins joins the Iberdrola Ambassadors programme, strengthening the drive for equality through sport

Iberdrola España, a subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in Spain, continues to advance its commitment to equality through sport by welcoming handball player Nicole Wiggins to its Iberdrola Ambassadors programme. The initiative brings together 35 outstanding athletes and role models who promote the visibility of women and foster female leadership.

The handball goalkeeper is recognised for her rapid development and consistency. At international level, she has represented Spain in major competitions including the 2022 European Championship, the Olympic Qualification Tournament and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she distinguished herself through her character, leadership and sporting maturity despite her young age.

Handball is among the sports that have gained the greatest media visibility in recent years, supported by Iberdrola’s commitment to women’s sport. In particular, the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola has become one of the most firmly established competitions in the discipline.

Since 2016, Iberdrola has been a leading promoter of women’s sport. Over the past decade, it has helped increase female membership across the 35 sports federations it supports by more than 80%, bringing the total close to 820,000 athletes.
