11/04/2025 - 18:00 UTC +02:00Iberdrola breaks its quarterly record for distributed energy due to increased demand and electrification of the economy Iberdrola beat its historical figures for electricity distributed through its networks in one quarter with 62,577 GWh, 1.7% more than in the same period of 2024, as reported to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV). This good operational performance of the networks business is based on the increase in electricity demand in all the areas where the company carries out this activity - such as Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and Brazil - and, likewise, on the greater electrification of the economy. The company has reached 25,222 GWh of renewable generation during the first three months of the year, 4.9% more than in the same period of the previous year. By country, the increases in production in Brazil (+24.6%) and the United States (+8.3%) stand out. Spain has once again reached maximum levels of generation in the first part of the year, exceeding 10,737 GWh of renewable energy, which represents an increase of 2.4%. Iberdrola has installed more than 2,511 MW of renewable energy in the last twelve months, 5.4% more than in the same period last year. In this way, the group's total renewable capacity stands at 44,675 MW. Of particular note is the commissioning of the emblematic Saint Brieuc offshore wind project in Brittany (496 MW). Commitment to electrification These quarterly energy data confirm Iberdrola's commitment to the electrification of the economy, energy self-sufficiency, security of supply and the transformation of the energy sector, all thanks to the investments made, which exceed 160,000 million euros, in the last twenty-five years. Europe's leading electricity company by market capitalisation generates 100% emission-free energy in countries such as the United Kingdom, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Greece. 10/04/2025 - 14:43 UTC +02:00Iberdrola holds an engagement day with its shareholders at its Madrid Campus Iberdrola today continued its round of meetings with shareholders in Spain with a meeting at its Innovation and Training Campus in San Agustín del Guadalix (Madrid). The meeting’s purpose was to encourage permanent, fluid and close dialogue with its investors, who are the foundation of the company's strategy. During the meeting, the shareholders had the opportunity to see the company's businesses first-hand with various workshops that brought them closer to Iberdrola's day-to-day business. They learned first-hand about the advances in grid digitalisation, the development of the renewable business, all the smart solutions for the home, such as aerothermal energy, self-consumption and electric vehicle charging points. 365 engagement and participation policy This initiative is part of the shareholder engagement policy approved by the Board of Directors 10 years ago and reflected in the By-Laws, with a special focus on small investors. Iberdrola has once again launched a space for shareholder engagement. The new space reinforces and promotes the participation of its shareholders through different channels 365 days a year. All of Adelaide Airport's electricity already comes from renewable sources, combining solar-powered systems at the complex itself and Iberdrola's wind farms at Lake Bonney in South Australia. The new 2.3 MW solar self-consumption system now generates approximately 3,282 MWh of energy a year, bringing the airport's total capacity to 3.5 MWp, enough to supply around 1,000 households. With this project, Iberdrola Australia has contributed to a significant increase in solar production at the airport, which previously had a farm on the roof of the multi-storey car park and a smaller one on the roof of one of its terminals, with a combined output of 1.28 MW. In December 2024, Adelaide Airport became the first major airport in Australia to achieve carbon neutrality. The main airport in South Australia's capital city, it is the fifth busiest down under. Heat accounts for 41% of final energy consumption in Spain. The European directive on buildings’ energy performance requires all new buildings, both public and private, to be zero-emissions by 2030, extending this requirement to all buildings, both new and existing, by 2050. Aerothermal energy is a heat pump that uses the energy from the outside air to produce heating in winter, cooling in summer, and hot water all year round. 08/04/2025 - 11:38 UTC +02:00Iberdrola España supports Bayer in the electrification of steam at its Asturias plant Bayer and Iberdrola España , the Iberdrola Group’s Spanish subsidiary, have signed the agreement that will enable the electrification of Bayer’s production plant in La Felguera (Asturias, in northern Spain), one of the most prominent projects in industrial decarbonization in the Asturian mining basin. Iberdrola will install an innovative thermal storage system next to the Bayer plant and will convert 100% renewable electricity – sourced from an adjacent self-consumption facility and several renewable plants – into the steam that Bayer needs for its operations. This is the first heat purchase agreement (HPA) of its kind in Spain. With this significant milestone, the plant that produces Bayer’s acetylsalicylic acid for the entire world will become the first site in its industry in Spain to decarbonise, and one of the first worldwide, thanks to the photovoltaic plant that Iberdrola will install next to the factory on the unusable land of the former thermal power station. 08/04/2025 - 09:23 UTC +02:00APD and Iberdrola discuss the new international tax landscape Representatives of the Basque and Spanish governments, the European Commission and executives of large companies met today at Torre Iberdrola at a conference organised by the Association for Progress in Management (APD in Spanish) entitled The New International Tax Landscape : Legal Certainty as a Basis for Competitiveness and Business Investment, to discuss the future of global taxation. The meeting was opened by Asís Canales, Director of Resources and Services and institutional representative in the Basque Country of the Iberdrola Group, who argued that a good fiscal policy can generate more and better business activity and with it more jobs, more wealth and more public revenue: ‘An excellent fiscal policy has to have medium-term planning, where the constraints of today do not jeopardise the growth of tomorrow’, he said. This was followed by Eduardo Junkera, president of APD's northern region and director of the Egile Corporation XXI Group. After them, the Basque Minister of Finance and Treasury, Noël d'Anjou, spoke about legal certainty as a basis for competitiveness and business investment. D'Anjou highlighted the growing weight of the Basque Country in international decision-making: ‘The agreements reached in the last three meetings of the Joint Economic Agreement Commission have strengthened the position of the Basque Government in the construction of a global Euskadi, being able to be present and participate in high-level groups. This means having our own voice in the bodies of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council of the European Union (Ecofin) and in the forums of the OECD and the G-20 where the international standards of business taxation are being designed’. The Sailburu added that ‘this allows us to raise our international visibility several notches and enables us to actively participate in forums where the taxation of the future is analysed and planned’. Electricity Taxation Begoña García-Rozado, Global Head of Taxation at Iberdrola, stated that ‘legal certainty is key to advancing in electrification, and the EU is trying to promote it through measures like the Clean Industrial Deal. Europe has taken the initiative to make sure electricity is not penalized and to ensure it can compete on equal terms with Asia and the United States, where there are no specific taxes on electricity. Now is the time for member states to take note and to take action.’ ‘In Spain, in addition, electricity is subject to the maximum 21% VAT, a Special Tax at 5.1%, and the Tax on the Value of Electricity Production at 7%. On top of that, there is a hydroelectric fee and regional taxes on renewables.
