Iberdrola signs agreement to acquire the electricity business of Electra del Maestrazgo

  • The family-owned electricity company operates in the regions of Castellón and Teruel, engaging in distribution, supply, and energy generation activities.
  • This transaction strengthens Iberdrola’s strategy, focusing on investment in networks and selective investment in renewables.

Iberdrola has taken another step in expanding its networks business in Spain by acquiring the distribution, supply, and energy generation operations of Electra del Maestrazgo, a family-run utility based in Castellón.

The company manages 1,350 km of medium- and low-voltage power lines, 21,000 supply points, 19,000 retail customers, and 6.8 MW of installed capacity from photovoltaic and hydroelectric generation plants. These assets will be integrated into Iberdrola’s operations, enhancing its presence and activities in the region. With this acquisition, Iberdrola reinforces its commitment to energy efficiency in the provinces of Castellón and Teruel.

The transaction is aligned with Iberdrola’s strategic plan, which places a stronger emphasis on the electricity networks business. In response to increasing electrification demands, the company has committed to investing more than €13 billion in networks between 2025 and 2026.

The company aims to reach €51 billion in regulated network assets by the end of this year, up from €49 billion reported in the first quarter.

The transaction is subject to approval by the CNMC (National Commission on Markets and Competition) before completion.
