Iberdrola pays tribute to Spain’s rhythmic gymnastics team following their world title and qualification for Los Angeles 2028

Iberdrola Executive Chairman Ignacio Galán welcomed members of Spain’s rhythmic gymnastics team to congratulate them on winning gold at the 2026 World Championships in Frankfurt, a historic achievement that comes 35 years after Spain’s last world title and secures qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The event was attended by the president of the Royal Spanish Gymnastics Federation, Jesús Carballo; national team captain Inés Bergua; gymnasts Salma Solaun, Andrea Fernández, Andrea Corral, Marina Cortelles and Lucía Muñoz; and national team coach Ana Pelaz.

During the meeting, Galán congratulated the athletes, coaching staff and Federation on an achievement built on effort, commitment and the ability to overcome challenges. He also highlighted that the Spanish team is an example of how perseverance, teamwork and confidence in a shared goal can make extraordinary achievements possible and inspire new generations of athletes.

Ignacio Galán also announced that Iberdrola will provide the national team with the competition leotards for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The Iberdrola Executive Chairman said the company wants to accompany the athletes in this Olympic challenge and play a part in writing a new chapter in the history of Spanish rhythmic gymnastics. With this initiative, Iberdrola has become the first company in Spain to support the creation and provision of competition leotards for the gymnasts.

The close relationship between Iberdrola and Spain’s rhythmic gymnastics team is the result of the company’s longstanding support for the discipline and women’s sport. Team captain Inés Bergua is part of the Iberdrola Ambassadors programme, while national team coach Alejandra Quereda was an Iberdrola ambassador during her career as an elite athlete.

The 2026 title caps the progress of a generation that has established itself among the world’s best. In Frankfurt, Spain won gold in the all-around competition and silver in the hoops and clubs exercise, adding to a string of successes that also includes three gold medals at the 2026 European Championships, in the all-around, five balls and mixed events. A year earlier, the team had already reached the world podium with two bronze medals and dominated the European Championships with a further three golds.

The gymnasts themselves identify with the “Phoenix” because they managed to rise again after falling short of their targets at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Just two years later, they have enjoyed an exceptional season, crowned by world gold in Frankfurt and Olympic qualification.
