Iberdrola España, subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in Spain, has closed the call for entries for the seventh edition of the Iberdrola Supera Awards, an initiative through which the company recognises and supports projects that promote gender equality through sport.
Since their launch in 2020, these awards have received more than 6,100 entries, establishing themselves as one of the leading initiatives supporting women’s sport and its capacity to generate social impact.
This year’s awards introduce two new categories, ‘Supera Health and Wellbeing’ and ‘Supera Veterans’, which join the six existing ones: ‘Supera Grassroots’, ‘Supera Competition’, ‘Supera Social’, ‘Supera Inclusion’, ‘Supera Outreach’ and ‘Supera Rural Development’. Each of the eight categories will be endowed with 50,000 euros, bringing the total to 400,000 euros earmarked for projects that promote participation in sport, inclusion, visibility and the wellbeing of women and girls in various fields.
This initiative forms part of Iberdrola’s commitment to equal opportunities and the promotion of sport as a tool for social transformation. Since 2016, the company has been the leading promoter of women’s sport in Spain, supporting 35 national federations and lending its name to more than 100 competitions. Over the past decade, its contribution has helped to increase the number of women registered with these federations by more than 80 per cent, reaching nearly 820,000 athletes.
