For more than three decades, Dan Flavin challenged conventional ideas about sculpture, space and perception. Using commercially manufactured fluorescent tubes, the American artist transformed everyday light into an artistic language capable of redefining entire environments. In November 2026, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao presents a major exhibition dedicated to his work. Sponsored by Iberdrola as part of its "125 light-years" anniversary programme, the exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to discover the radical simplicity and enduring influence of one of the most important figures in contemporary art.

At the Iberdrola Group, we have developed a number of projects through the Avangrid Foundation to improve the lighting in museums and unique buildings in the United States. Specifically, the work of this institution has so far enabled the lighting of the Barnum Museum (Bridgeport, Connecticut) and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art (Hartford, Connecticut) to be upgraded.

Nearly thirty works depicting scenes from the life and customs of the Bilbao town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries could be seen at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in 2021. The exhibition, curated by Kosme de Barañano and sponsored by Iberdrola, brought together different painters from the period who, through brushstrokes imbued with French impressionism and the latest contemporary styles, reflect the sweeping modernisation the city underwent.

Artistic practice has spent more than half a century responding to the environmental emergency. The exhibition 'Arts of the Earth' presented a vibrant map of historical and contemporary works that explored new materials, processes and ways of relating to ecosystems.

At the Iberdrola Group, we are carrying out several initiatives at artistic monuments and distinctive buildings with the aim of improving their interior and exterior lighting, helping to showcase our heritage, promoting energy efficiency and reducing environmental pollution. Below we present our main lighting projects in the countries where we currently operate or have previously operated.

During the years in which the Iberdrola Group operated in Mexico, until 2026, it also carried out important work to protect and promote works of art and historic buildings through its Foundation in the country.
