Iberdrola boosts the flexibility of the electricity grid in the UK

SP Electricity North West, the distribution business of ScottishPower, subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in UK, has launched a new flexibility tender worth up to £14 million. The initiative aims to secure 779 MW of flexible capacity across several areas of north-west England, further strengthening the role of smart grids in the energy transition.

By bringing together a wide range of flexibility providers, SP Electricity North West is creating new revenue opportunities while helping to keep costs down for consumers. The programme will also support the continued expansion of flexibility services across all voltage levels, reinforcing the company's role as an active distribution system operator.

The tender marks another step forward in Iberdrola's strategy to accelerate the integration of cleaner energy sources, make more efficient use of electricity networks and build a more resilient power system. Flexibility plays a vital role in balancing electricity demand and generation in real time, particularly as electrification continues to gather pace.
