New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), a distribution company owned by Avangrid, subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in the United States, has completed major upgrades to around 13 miles of transmission lines in Allegany and Steuben counties, New York State.
The project, known as Line 932, was completed three months ahead of schedule and under the initial budget, resulting in savings of over $2 million for customers. Furthermore, it was the first project to be completed under NYSEG’s Powering New York programme, an initiative aimed at increasing the reliability and capacity of the grid and supporting the state’s energy objectives.
The project strengthens the reliability and resilience of the local electricity grid by replacing 58 ageing structures along a 12.8-mile stretch of line. These improvements will also enable progress to be made on the installation of a power flow control device near the Bennett substation in Hornell, with the aim of regulating voltage more efficiently and increasing the transmission system’s capacity.
Upgrading this infrastructure will also help facilitate the connection of existing and future generation facilities, supporting the energy and economic development of New York State.
