Iberdrola strengthens its US presence with a new Avangrid-Microsoft PPA

Avangrid, subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in the United States, has signed a new power purchase agreement (PPA) with Microsoft for Bluebird Solar, a 140 MWdc (100 MWac) solar project in Washington State.

The agreement brings the companies’ total contracted capacity in the US to more than 500 MW, further strengthening a strategic partnership that supports the growing demand for clean electricity from major technology companies.

The deal also reinforces Iberdrola Group’s position as a leading provider of long-term renewable energy solutions in the United States. Bluebird Solar is the fourth project contracted by Avangrid and Microsoft, following several solar and wind developments announced in recent years. Together, these projects highlight the Group’s ability to support the electrification of the economy through large-scale renewable energy generation.

Expected to enter operation in 2028, Bluebird Solar will not only expand renewable energy capacity but also deliver economic benefits to the local community through investment, job creation and tax revenues, further strengthening the Group’s footprint in one of its key markets.
