Iberdrola wins Bayer award for its role in accelerating industrial electrification

Iberdrola was chosen by the multinational pharmaceutical Bayer for promoting industrial electrification using innovative solutions, key to meeting European decarbonisation targets.

The German company gives the Bayer Procurement Decarbonisation Accelerator Award to key partners who contribute to the sustainability, efficiency and reduction of emissions in their operations and processes through clean tech and renewable energies.

Bayer praised the agreements and solutions Iberdrola has that aim to electrification and decarbonise its processes. These include the long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) signed by both companies, which marked a milestone in the pharmaceutical industry in Spain. Both companies also have similar contracts in other countries, such as Italy, where the energy comes from the Montefiascone plant.

This year they also strengthened their strategic partnership with another pioneering initiative: the first heat purchase agreement in Spain, through which Iberdrola will electrify Bayer's plant in La Felguera, Asturias, where all the acetylsalicylic acid used to manufacture aspirin is produced.
