Gestamp and Iberdrola sign a 10-year agreement for the supply of clean energy in Europe

  • The power purchase agreement (PPA) provides for the supply of 660,000 megawatt hours of 100% renewable energy to various Gestamp plants across the continent

Iberdrola and Gestamp have signed a 10-year renewable energy Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the supply of 660,000 megawatt hours of electricity to various plants in Europe belonging to the multinational specialising in the design, development and manufacture of high-engineering metal components for the automotive industry.

The partnership reflects both companies' commitment to a safer, more efficient and sustainable industrial model based on the electrification of operations and production processes.

The PPA covers 34 megawatts of installed capacity and will enable Gestamp's plants to be supplied with 100% renewable energy (80% wind and the remaining 20% solar), backed by certificates of origin.

This agreement enables Gestamp to secure a long-term supply of renewable energy at a fixed and competitive price, in line with its strategy aimed at promoting stability and future visibility of its energy costs. It also helps the company take a further step in its contribution to the decarbonisation of the automotive industry's supply chain.

For its part Iberdrola, Europe's leading electricity company and one of the world's two largest by market capitalisation, is further expanding its PPA portfolio and strengthening its role as a strategic partner to the industrial sector. The company recently retained its position at the forefront of the European power purchase agreement market for the third consecutive year, according to the Pexapark Renewables Market Outlook 2026 report.

These long-term contracts form part of Iberdrola's strategy to foster stable partnerships with major customers, advance the electrification of the industrial and business sector and contribute to a self-sufficient, secure, competitive and sustainable energy system capable of meeting growing demand.

In the case of the automotive sector in Spain, Iberdrola has signed agreements in 2026, valid for 10 years, covering 50 megawatts of installed capacity and the supply of one million megawatt-hours of 100% renewable energy

Javier Imaz, Chief Purchasing Officer (CPO) at Gestamp, said: “This agreement marks a very important milestone for the company as it represents a further step in its efforts to implement more sustainable production processes, committed to electrification, energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources. All of this forms part of Gestamp’s ambitious sustainability strategy, which aims, amongst other things, to continue contributing to the decarbonisation of the automotive industry’s supply chain.”

David Martínez, Director of Iberdrola España's Customer Business, said: “This agreement represents a very important milestone for the company, as it marks another step forward in its efforts to implement more sustainable production processes, focused on electrification, energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources. All of this is part of Gestamp’s ambitious sustainability strategy, which aims, among other objectives, to continue contributing to the decarbonisation of the automotive industry’s supply chain.
