- The solar facility, located in Oregon, will have an installed capacity of 57 MWdc (41 MWac) and generate enough clean electricity to power around 10,000 US homes each year
- The project is supporting around 200 jobs during construction while contributing to the region’s economic development
Iberdrola, through its US subsidiary Avangrid, has begun installing solar panels at Oregon Trail Solar, a new 57 MWdc (41 MWac) solar facility in Gilliam County, Oregon. The milestone marks a major step in the construction of the project, which is supporting around 200 jobs.
Oregon Trail Solar will help meet growing electricity demand with clean, renewable energy while supporting electrification across the United States. It will also provide a boost to the local economy by creating jobs and generating economic activity in the region.
The project is expected to enter commercial operation next year and will comprise more than 100,000 solar panels. Once operational, it will generate enough renewable electricity to supply approximately 10,000 US homes annually.
Alongside its impact on employment, Oregon Trail Solar will promote the region’s economic development throughout its operational life through property taxes and other local contribution mechanisms. These resources will help fund essential public services, including schools and infrastructure.
Oregon Trail Solar forms part of Avangrid’s growing portfolio of generation projects in Oregon. The plant is located adjacent to Pachwáywit Fields, a 205 MWdc (162 MWac) solar plant already in operation, and Shutler Energy Storage, a large-scale battery project with an installed capacity of 41 MW and a storage capacity of 82 MWh.
Avangrid currently manages more than 2,500 MW of installed capacity across Oregon, where it also has its National Training Centre in Sherman County and a major corporate office in Portland.
Through projects such as Oregon Trail Solar, the Iberdrola Group continues to strengthen its commitment to the United States by investing in the electricity infrastructure needed to build a more secure, self-sufficient, competitive and sustainable energy system—one capable of meeting rising electricity demand, creating skilled jobs and supporting the long-term prosperity of local communities.
