Iberdrola España, the Group's subsidiary in the country, and FCC Ámbito have inaugurated EnergyLOOP in Navarra, in northern Spain, the first plant specifically dedicated to recycling wind turbine blades on the Iberian Peninsula. This facility will recycle components from renewable facilities, one of the biggest medium- and long-term challenges facing the industry.
The recycling plant was created to recover the components of wind turbine blades and reuse them in industries such as energy, aerospace, automotive, textiles, chemical and construction, which contributes to the transformation of the wind industry into a truly circular economy through investment in comprehensive recycling solutions for blades. An estimated 5,700 wind turbines per year will be dismantled in Europe by 2030 from repowering wind farms or from facilities reaching the end of their useful life.
The plant, sponsored by Iberdrola through its PERSEO programme, has involved an investment of around €10M and will also contribute to the creation of an innovative and dynamic value chain.
