Iberdrola Italia promotes access to energy in vulnerable communities in developing countries

Iberdrola Italia, the Iberdrola Group’s subsidiary in Italy, has renewed – through iCube, its joint venture with Innovo Renovables – its partnership with the Sopowerful Foundation to continue supporting access to electricity in vulnerable communities across developing countries.

The partnership focuses on backing electrification projects based on solar energy installations in areas where access to electricity is limited or unreliable, particularly in countries such as Malawi and Tanzania. These initiatives help address essential community needs while fostering more inclusive and sustainable development.

Founded in 2019, the non-profit organisation Sopowerful develops renewable energy electrification projects in vulnerable regions. With more than 40 initiatives currently underway, its work contributes to improving the living conditions of around 500,000 people each year, with a positive impact on healthcare, education, access to water and food security.

The renewal of the partnership, which began in 2024, reflects a shared commitment to combining innovation, sustainability and social impact, while reinforcing the role of electrification as a driver of positive transformation for both people and communities.
