Iberdrola strengthens its commitment to technological innovation alongside the University of Deusto

Iberdrola España, a subsidiary of Iberdrola Group in Spain, and the University of Deusto have signed a framework collaboration agreement to promote joint research, innovation and knowledge transfer initiatives linked to electrification, sustainability and technological advancement.

The agreement includes the development of R&D&I projects at national and international level in strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, quantum computing and business management applied to innovation, internationalisation, financing, risk management and sustainability. These areas of work aim to accelerate the application of advanced technologies to the energy system and contribute to a more efficient, secure and sustainable transition.

Artificial intelligence will play a prominent role in this collaboration due to its ability to transform the management of electricity networks. Its application enables issues to be anticipated, resources to be optimised, supply reliability to be improved and large-scale renewable energy integration to be facilitated, strengthening the resilience of the electricity system. In this area, Iberdrola has the Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub, its global smart grids centre located in Bilbao, as a benchmark for innovation applied to the networks of the future.
