Iberdrola Chairman, Ignacio Galán, will participate on 6 and 7 November in the summit of heads of state and government convened by President Lula da Silva on the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) to be held in Belém, Brazil.
Among the confirmed heads of state and government, in addition to Brazil, are those of Germany, France and the United Kingdom. Also participating will be the President of the European Commission, the Secretary-General of the United Nations and leaders of international organisations such as the International Energy Agency and the World Bank.
The sessions at this meeting will address the main issues of interest to the COP, including the energy transition, in which Ignacio Galán will outline the role of investment in electricity grids, the expansion of renewable energies and the promotion of storage as a tool to strengthen energy security and autonomy, generate opportunities for growth, employment and industry and, of course, advance in the fulfilment of climate objectives.
Galán's presence at this international forum, to which he has been invited since the Copenhagen COP in 2009, underlines Iberdrola's commitment to global collaboration in addressing the major social challenges of the 21st century.
Noronha Verde: clean energy for a natural paradise
On Saturday, 8 November, Ignacio Galán will take part in the presentation of the Noronha Verde project, promoted by Iberdrola's Brazilian subsidiary, Neoenergia, in partnership with the Brazilian and Pernambuco governments. The project makes Fernando de Noronha Island the first inhabited oceanic island in Latin America with a 100% sustainable energy model. The event will be attended by Brazil's Minister of Energy, Alexandre Silveira, and the Governor of the state of Pernambuco, Raquel Lyra.
Through its subsidiary Neoenergia, Iberdrola is Brazil's largest electricity company in terms of number of customers, with a presence in 18 states and assets worth €18 billion. It has 4,200 megawatts of installed capacity and serves around 40 million people.
As part of its new plan, the Group will allocate around €7.3 billion to Brazil over the next five years.
