31/01/2017Iberdrola completes extension to largest hydroelectric complex in Galicia Iberdrola has completed the extension to the largest hydroelectric complex in Galicia, following the commissioning of the new San Pedro II power plant, which was inaugurated this morning by the Chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, and the President of the Regional Government (Xunta) of Galicia, Alberto Nuñez Feijóo, in the Sil River Basin, in the municipality of Nogueira de Ramuín (Ourense). The commissioning of this facility marks the conclusion of the extension to the Santo Esteve-San Pedro hydroelectric complex, on which Iberdrola has been working on since 2008, a project in which the company has invested some €200 million and provided employment to almost 800 people. This initiative has also given a boost to the business sector in Galicia: in the construction of San Pedro II alone, some 80 local companies have taken part. This figure rises to 200 if the number of companies participating in the extension to Santo Estevo are also counted. During the inauguration of the plant, where a commemorative plaque was unveiled, the Chairman of Iberdrola highlighted that “for a company like Iberdrola - which has been connected to hydroelectric technology since it was founded 115 years ago and has been the main driver of this technology in Spain - to achieve this new milestone in harnessing the Sil River is a source of great pride that also reinforces our commitment to promoting renewable energies, which are indispensable in bringing down emissions and progressing towards a sustainable energy model”. “Thanks to our unwavering commitment towards clean energies, to which we have allocated some €30 billion in investments over the last 10 years, not only are we a major producer of hydroelectric energy; we are also the leading producer of wind power worldwide”, explained Ignacio Galán. “We have become an international benchmark in combating climate change, the main global challenge facing the world today, as we have reduced our emissions by 75% in recent years so that they currently stand at just a third of the average for the European electricity sector”. The Chairman of Iberdrola also emphasised that “the Galicia region is one of the best examples of this position attained by the company, because thanks to our hydroelectric power plants and wind farms, 100% of our output capacity in this autonomous region comes from renewable sources and is therefore entirely emissions-free”. Mr. Galán also wished to underline the important role that Galicia plays in the commitment to offshore wind power, an area of technology in which Iberdrola is at the forefront, just as it was with hydroelectric energy and onshore wind power. Clean energies and catalyst effect “The construction at the Navantia shipyards in Fene of the platforms for our wind farms in the Baltic Sea off Germany and in the North Sea off England provides jobs to thousands of people and creates work for dozens of companies in Galicia”, explained the Chairman of Iberdrola. “These figures highlight our commitment to this land, where we have invested over €1.2 billion in the last decade and made purchases worth over €1.4 billion.” Mr. Galán also emphasised that going forward, “we are going to keep on investing and carrying out projects that are aligned with the basic tenets of our strategy, which focuses on clean energies, technological innovation and international growth. We have a catalyst effect on industry and employment (with purchases amounting to over €9 billion last year, including some 4,000 Spanish suppliers) and we provide jobs for 88,000 people in our country, according to a recent report by PriceWaterhouseCoopers”. The new San Pedro II hydroelectric power plant, which acts as a counter-dam to Santo Estevo, modulating the flow on the River Sil, has allowed to make the most of the extension added to Santo Estevo, thereby increasing the energy obtained from a local, renewable resource while caring for the surroundings, which have exceptional ecological value. The total capacity of 500 megawatts (MW) provided by these power plants, following the two extensions carried out in recent years, is enough to supply renewable, emissions-free energy to over 320,000 households in Galicia. This extension inaugurated today, which is almost completely submerged underground and was completed in record time to reduce the environmental and visual impact to a minimum, also helps boost tourism in the Ribeira Sacra and Cañones del Sil areas, as the reservoirs mean that long stretches of the rivers are navigable by tourist vessels. 25/01/201769,3% of Iberdrola's share capital chooses to receive new shares in group free of charge IBERDROLA notified the Spanish National Stock Market Commission (CNMV) today of the result of the most recent edition of its ‘Iberdrola Flexible Dividend’ scrip dividend scheme, coinciding with what would have been the interim dividend against its earnings in FY2016. In this new edition of ‘Iberdrola Flexible Dividend’, the company once again offered its shareholders the possibility of choosing between receiving their returns in cash or in the form of new shares in the company, with no charges or commissions. On this occasion, 69.3% of the share capital of Iberdrola has opted to receive new shares in the company. This once again confirms shareholder confidence in the management by the executive team at Iberdrola and in the positive share price performance by the group, which has consolidated its position as one of the leading utilities in the world by market cap. To cover the result of this new edition of the scheme, Iberdrola will issue 97,911,000 new shares, thus increasing the company’s capital by 1.539%. Ordinary trading with these new shares is expected to commence on Wednesday, 1 February 2017. On the other hand, the holders of 1,956,083,947 free-of-charge allocation rights preferred to accept the purchase commitment undertaken by Iberdrola, set at €0.135 gross per share. This means that the dividend has increased by 8% compared to the minimum amount committed in January 2016, which was €0.125 gross per share. As a result, the company has acquired the aforementioned rights for a total gross amount of €264.071 million. Iberdrola Flexible Dividend Under the terms of this scheme, shareholders can choose between receiving shares in the group free of charge and with no withholding tax or receiving their returns in cash, either by selling their free-of-charge allocation rights for the set price undertaken by Iberdrola or by selling them on the market. The three options offered by the ‘Iberdrola Flexible Dividend’ scheme - to receive new shares, to sell the allocation rights to the company or sell them on the market - are not mutually exclusive and therefore shareholders are entitled to choose one of the alternatives or combine them according to their preferences. This edition of the ‘Iberdrola Flexible Dividend’ scheme will be completed by the complementary return against 2106, which is due to be approved at the next General Shareholders’ Meeting and to be paid next July. Iberdrola is making progress in its commitment to increasing its annual shareholder returns in line with its earnings. READ MORE

24/01/2017ScottishPower Renewables agrees contract with Nexans and DeepOcean for East Anglia ONE export cable The cables will carry the electricity from the 714 megawatt (MW) windfarm onshore in Suffolk, via two 85 km submarine cables with embedded fibre optics. Delivery of the cables will begin in summer 2018. The contract award will also allow DeepOcean to maintain its policy of recruiting STEM graduates into the UK workforce. This policy has enabled DeepOcean to increase its skill base in the complex engineering and execution of demanding offshore projects on a year by year basis. East Anglia ONE is a £2.5billion offshore windfarm, which will generate enough renewable energy to power 500,000 homes per year. ScottishPower Renewables is on target to deliver more than 50% of UK content across the life of the project. The project will be the most cost efficient offshore windfarm ever to confirm construction, and is leading the way to meet the UK Government’s cost reduction targets. The price of £119 MWh was secured after a competitive auction process run by the Government, and is more than 15% lower than other offshore wind projects in construction elsewhere in the UK. Jonathan Cole, Managing Director of Offshore Wind at ScottishPower Renewables, said: “Both Nexans and DeepOcean have considerable experience in providing and installing cables for offshore wind power projects in the UK. DeepOcean have won a number of major contracts recently, and it is positive to see that many highly-skilled jobs in Darlington will continue to be supported with the award of this contract, and hopefully this will also lead to further recruitment and training opportunities in the region. “This is a huge year for the East Anglia ONE project. Preparations are now underway for the initial work onshore, and we are in advanced planning stages for the offshore work, which will kick-off in 2018. We will deliver industry-leading levels of UK content, coupled with the fact that this is the best value offshore windfarm ever to go in to construction. We hope that further major contracts will be placed in the UK in the coming months, adding to the jobs and investment we are already creating in Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Hull, Belfast and Darlington.” DeepOcean’s Commercial Director for Cables & Trenching Pierre Boyde, said, “After building an extensive track record providing services on some of the most important offshore wind projects, we are delighted to be given this opportunity to develop our relationship with Nexans and their customer Scottish Power Renewables. There are significant opportunities for local suppliers to support DeepOcean for this scope of work and we also look forward to helping our customer deliver on the Supply Chain Plan for the project. Vincent Dessale, Executive Vice President Subsea Energy System Business Line at Nexans, said: “We’re pleased to be working with DeepOcean on this project because of its experience and successful track record on existing offshore wind projects. 18/01/2017Ignacio Galán advocates energy decarbonisation in a scenario of increasing global demand The Chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, took part today in the Energy's Clean Transition panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos-Klosters (Switzerland). Also on the panel were Christiana Figueres from Mission 2020, Total CEO Patrick Poyanné, Rusal CEO Oleg Deripaska, and the Chinese National Energy Administration Director, Nur Bekri. Galán argued that the decarbonisation of the energy sector is essential for meeting the Paris Agreement targets, since two thirds of greenhouse gas emissions are energy-related. Iberdrola Chairman described a scenario for the coming decades that will be characterised by the need to cut emissions by almost half in just 25 years to contain climate change, while meeting the demand for energy which is set to rise by almost 45% if current trends continue. “To solve this equation, we will need a huge energy transformation that can increase efficiency and substantially alter the energy mix with a higher contribution of low carbon sources,” he explained. Electricity generation, which is currently responsible for around 33% of global emissions (almost half of all energy emissions) can contribute more to decarbonisation than any other energy sopurce or industry thanks to renewable energies, he said. In a scenario in which there is total compliance with the Paris Agreement, electricity will account for over two thirds of the growth of energy demand over the next 25 years, yet out of every three tonnes of CO2 reductions the electricity sector will contribute two. In other words, “meeting the emissions targets will only be possible by massively electrifying the economy, through more clean energies, especially hydroelectric, wind and solar power; more storage capacity, given the natural unpredictability of most renewable technologies; and more and smarter distribution networks, to transmit and distribute electricity while still allowing consumers to play an active role,” he explained. The investments required by the electricity sector over the next 25 years will total 19 trillion dollars, nearly twice the amount thus far invested. “There is only one way to attract this huge amount of capital: to create an adequate energy planning process and to define stable, predictable and sufficient regulatory frameworks,” he concluded. Iberdrola's contribution to emissions reduction On Iberdrola's contribution to the fight against climate change, Ignacio Galán noted that Iberdrola anticipated this energy transition 20 years ago and, since 2000, the company has invested 100 billion dollars in renewable energies, networks and pumped-storage hydroelectric power. He also emphasised Iberdrola's position as a world leader in wind power and the reduction of its European emissions by 75% since 2000, well below the European average. “But we want to go further, and we have set as our goal reducing the intensity of our emissions by 50% by 2030,” from 2007 levels, declared Galán. The Chairman of Iberdrola explained that the company “has shown that decarbonisation and profitability are fully compatible: our asset base has multiplied by five and our results and dividends by three." A commitment to society through responsible capitalism In a world that is driven ever more quickly towards globalisation, and after 2016 demonstrated a widespread – and legitimate –rejection around the globe of the inequalities that this is bringing, Iberdrola is committed to building economic and social growth for all. Its way of adapting to globalisation is based on fairness and a way of doing business centered in the values of honesty, effort and responsibility. The company believes that it is the responsibility of corporations to materialize the concept of inclusive capitalism, which puts people at the core of decision making, with the aim of fostering confidence, creating jobs and, more generally, ensuring the well-being of citizens, without regard to any given organization's ablility to deploy considerable amounts of capital, because it is the sum of the investments made by numerous firms that makes a significant impact. The company advocates a business community that ensures that the most economically vulnerable members of society continue to maintain ongoing access to energy. Iberdrola supports the communities in which it operates with annual investments of €4 billion and annual purchases from suppliers exceeding €5.4 billion, as well as contributing €5.5 billion annually to the public coffers through payment of taxes.
