07/08/2017The British Government approves the Iberdrola East Anglia Three offshore wind power megaproject, with a 1,200 MW capacity Iberdrola has received the approval of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy of the United Kingdom (BEIS) to build the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm, which will have an installed power of up to 1,200 megawatts (MW). With the approval, the company can built this renewable energy megaproject in British waters, the most ambitious carried out by a Spanish company in the renewable energy sector until now. This new offshore wind farm will be part of the project developed by Iberdrola in the same area, known as East Anglia One, with a 714 MW capacity. Therefore, the new East Anglia wind farm will reach a power capacity of 2,000 MW, becoming one of the largest renewable energy installations in the world. East Anglia Three will be located at a distance of 69 kilometres from the coast of Norfolk, close to the London metropolitan area, and shall supply electricity to approximately one million British homes. Iberdrola is expected to start on the construction work in 2022 and start production in 2025 The installation will cover an area of up to 305 kilometres squared and require the installation of between 100 and 120 wind turbines to generate the total capacity. The company is expected to install state-of-the-art wind turbines for this offshore wind power project. Likewise, the smallest and most efficient wind turbines in the market will be installed, with a height of up to 247 metres, equivalent to two times and a half the size of Big Ben (96 metres). The commissioning of East Anglia Three will represent the unprecedented start of operations of an electric infrastructure by a Spanish company: * Up to four offshore substations. * An offshore platform shall host the operational centre and offices. * Up to four underwater cables to export energy from the wind farm to the coast. * An onshore substation, located in the county of Suffolk, to connect the wind farm to the grid of National Grid. Iberdrola's commitment to offshore wind power Iberdrola has made strong investments in offshore wind power as one of the keys to its future. To achieve this, it has created a department in the company that has organised large-scale projects in the north of Europe. The company is already executing projects in the UK, Germany and France. The company is collaborating with Spanish vendors, such as Navantia and the new Siemens Gamesa. Some of the main offshore wind farm projects include: * West of Duddon Sands: Iberdrola was the first Spanish company to design and start up an offshore wind farm, the West of Duddon Sands wind farm (WoDS) in the United Kingdom. The company promoted this project in a consortium with the Danish company Dong. Together, the two companies invested more than 1.6 billion pounds. WoDS boasts 389 MW in capacity and, as such, is able to generate enough power to meet the energy needs of approximately 300,000 British households. The offshore wind farm is located about 12 miles from Barrow-in-Furness in the North West coast of England. Since it first started operations, it has shown extraordinary performance both in terms of production and availability in hours. The wind farm extends across approximately 26 square miles (mi2) and each of its turbines has 3.6 MW capacity. Iberdrola's Renewable Energies Operating Centre (CORE) is responsible for operation and maintenance control. It is located in the Whitelee wind farm (Glasgow). * Wikinger: it will require an investment of almost 1.4 billion euros and will have an installed capacity of 350 MW of clean energy, equivalent to the consumption of approximately 350,000 German homes. This represents over 20% of the demand for energy of the State of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, region where the wind farm is located. The wind farm is close to the north east coast of the German island of Rügen and it is currently being built. It is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year. Wikinger is having an important pull effect in the different areas in which the project is being carried out, with approximately 2,000 jobs created for the construction works at the port of Mukran and at the factories where all of the components are being manufactured, both in Germany and Spain. The AD-5000 – 135 turbines are manufactured as state-of-the-art structures by Siemens Gamesa in the Bremerhaven and Stade manufacturing plants (Germany) and have a 5 MW unit power. These are the wind turbines with the highest power rating and largest dimensions that the company has installed in its entire history. They are made up of a 222-ton nacelle, a rotor with a 135 metre diameter and blades with a 77.5 metre length, as well as a 75-metre high tower. * Saint Brieuc: the Saint-Brieuc wind farm will have an installed power of 494 MW; it will be located in Saint-Brieuc bay, off the coast of Brittany in France, about 100 km from the city of Rennes. Saint-Brieuc will be equipped with 62 turbines with a capacity of 8 MW and located 20 kilometres offshore. These state-of-the-art wind turbines will also have a Spanish hallmark, as they have been ordered from Siemens Gamesa. They will be spread over an area of 75 km⊃2;, with the closest one to land being installed about 16 km from the coast. This facility, which is being developed by Iberdrola in collaboration with the company RES and Caisse des Dépôts, will be the company’s fourth offshore wind farm when it is commissioned. The energy produced at this location is expected to meet the electricity needs of the equivalent of 850,000 inhabitants. READ MORE

04/08/2017IBERDROLA inspects over 32,000 km of power lines in Spain to boost supply security Iberdrola Distribución inspected over 32,000 km of power lines in Spain in the first six months of the year to boost supply security, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of the service it offers. The company inspected very high, high and medium voltage power lines to guarantee their reliability and optimum functioning even in adverse weather conditions. From the beginning of the year until June, Iberdrola inspected some 19,600 kilometres of overhead power lines and an additional 7,000 kilometres of underground power lines. It also conducted thermographic testing on 4,400 km and performed pruning and maintenance work on electricity corridors spanning 1,600 km. The inspections of overhead power lines are geared towards detecting possible anomalies in the elements that make up installations of this type: insulators, conductors, fittings, pylons, etc. that have been damaged by lightning, trees, construction work or adjacent buildings, for example. The company also performed infra-red or thermographic tests on some 4,400 km of overhead power lines. This kind of inspection of electricity infrastructure is performed with special cameras transported by helicopter or by a team of workers on the ground. It allows the temperature of the installations to be measured, to detect any spots where temperatures are too high (“hot spots”) so that they can be corrected and supply can be guaranteed in the event of peak demand. Iberdrola also carried out cleaning operations in the corridors through which its lines pass, pruning the trees that posed the greatest risk of coming into contact with about 1,600 km of power lines. This power line inspection campaign is part of the company’s work to improve its electricity installations, with a view to improving the quality and security of its energy supply. Significant investment efforts by the company in Spain Iberdrola Distribución closed the 2016 financial year having earmarked investment of 537 million euros for the improvement of its distribution network and the gradual introduction of smart electricity grids in Spain. As a result of the ongoing automation of the network, the development of smart grids and investment in new facilities and the renovation of existing facilities, Iberdrola has set its electricity service availability index at 99.99%. The future is heading toward increasingly smarter, safer and more reliable networks, challenges which Iberdrola Distribución takes head on as a company which leads in innovation so as to offer a better service each day to its customers and society in general. 28/07/2017Iberdrola will supply renewable energy to the city of Austin (Texas) Iberdrola's US subsidiary AVANGRID Renewables and Austin have entered into an agreement for the long-term sale of power for the city of Austin (Texas). Therefore, Iberdrola will generate clean energy for the city of Austin over the next 15 years, from a wind farm that will be built between 2018 and 2019 in the state of Texas. The location of the wind farm will be chosen over the next few weeks. It will have a 200 MW capacity and require an investment of almost $300M. In the United States, contracts such as this one with Austin Energy are referred to as ‘Power Purchase Agreements’ (PPA) and guarantee the profitability of energy facilities in this country for the long haul. Most of Iberdrola’s wind farms in the United States were brokered through similar agreements, which have yielded great stability to the company's investments in such a strategic market, a stability that has been the bedrock for Iberdrola's commitment to the country. In fact, Iberdrola has signed during the past few months a series of agreements with flagship US multinationals, which have chosen the company to supply green energy to their facilities from the company's wind farms. These wind farms include Amazon's US East wind farm (North Carolina), which supplies power to Amazon, or the Montague wind farm which supplies power to Apple, as well as the Leaning Jupiter (Oregon) and Jupiter Canyon (Washington), both of which supply power to Nike. Therefore, Iberdrola will own and operate the wind farm that will be built, and the electricity generated will be supplied to the city of Austin, capital of Texas and fourteenth most populated city in the United States, with almost one million inhabitants. Iberdrola, renewable energy benchmark in the United States Since late 2015, Iberdrola has been operating in the United States through the company AVANGRID, which is the fruit of the friendly merger between Iberdrola USA and UIL Holdings Corporation. AVANGRID is a New York Stock Exchange listed company (ticker: AGR) based in New Haven (Connecticut) with operations spanning 25 US States and assets worth US$31 billion. AVANGRID’s presence in the renewables sector in the United States is one of the largest international commitments ever undertaken by a Spanish company. Its involvement in clean generation in the country, with nearly 6,200 MW of installed wind power, has made AVANGRID the United States' third-largest wind power operator. In recent years, AVANGRID has built some of its most emblematic facilities in the sector in the United States, including the Peñascal complex, which is the world's largest wind power facility with a power capacity of 606 MW, and the projects currently under way in California, namely El Cabo, whose power capacity will reach 298 MW, and the 132 MW Tule project. 20/07/2017Iberdrola investment in the first half reaches €2.512 billion (+ 35%) Iberdrola continued to expand investments to €2.512 billion during the first six months of 2017, up 35% from the same period the previous year. Out of that amount, over 91% was allocated to networks, renewables and long-term generation contracts. Accordingly, 90% – some €22 billion – of investments planned for the 2016-2020 Outlook, which amount to €25 billion, has been earmarked for projects already installed, under construction or committed. Iberdrola currently has more than 6,300 megawatts (MW) of renewables and contracted generation under construction, of which 1,350 MW will be in operation during the second half of the year, mainly renewables. By business units, main milestones of this first half year include: * Networks: Western Link, the subsea connection between Wales and Scotland, continues to advance its construction to be completed in the last quarter of the year. In Spain, 92% of smart meters for the STAR project have already been installed. For its part, Brazilian subsidiary Elektro was awarded six new transmission lines and three substations. * Renewables: half of the wind turbines and the first export cable have already been installed in the 350-MW Wikinger offshore wind farm, which will be operational by the end of the year in German waters of the Baltic Sea. In addition, the group is advancing the development of East Anglia One, its third offshore wind facility, for which 80% of the supply work has now been contracted. Also, it is working on its first offshore wind developments in the United States, after the acquisition of sites off the coasts of Massachusetts and North Carolina. In onshore wind, AVANGRID has signed long-term contracts for 501 MW – 401 MW for new projects and 100 MW for repowered facilities – as well as 589 MW in fixed price contracts for existing capacity. * Regulated generation in Mexico: the company has commissioned 336 MW of combined cycles in the first half of the year and is currently building a total of 3,505 MW; aiming at bringing total capacity in the country will to 10,000 MW by 2020. As a consequence of all this activity, the group has hired 1,500 new professionals between January and June 2017, bringing total number of employees to 30,000. In addition, the company has made purchases worth €3.817 billion, +11.6% year on year, to 13,800 suppliers. Improved profit Iberdrola posted a net profit of €1.518 billion in the first half of 2017, an increase of 4.2% over the same period in the previous year. Net operating profit (EBITDA) attained €3.752 billion, down 3.6% year on year. Compared to the 8.2% decrease in the first quarter of 2017, Ebitda shows signs of recovery throughout the year. Of the total amount, more than 80% comes from regulated businesses or from long-term contracts. Ebitda for the period was underpinned by the networks business performing particularly well in the United States, while it was affected by the liberalised business in the United Kingdom and low hydroelectric and wind resources in Spain. AVANGRID performance The group’s US subsidiary, AVANGRID, 81.5% owned by Iberdrola and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, recorded a net profit of $359 million up until June, an increase of 14% (US GAAP). As a result of the positive evolution of its share price over the year, total shareholder return (TSR) of the subsidiary exceeds 21%, twice that of the benchmark S&P 500 Utilities index. It should be noted the good performance of AVANGRID in both networks and renewables, which have increased their net profit by 10% and 19%, respectively. These results confirm third quarter dividend for this company shareholders of $0.432 per share, payable on October 2. Results by business: improvement in networks Group revenue reached €15.167 billion euros, up 1.8% year on year while gross margin was €6.851 billion, up 1.1%. Operating cash flow was €3.275 billion, up 1.7%, with taxes growing 13% to €1.156 billion. By businesses, networks achieved an Ebitda of €1.978 billion, up by 4.4% from the first half of 2016. This good performance is mainly due to the area’s results in the United States and Brazil –which account for about 40% of the business– and compensates for the United Kingdom were earnings were impacted by milder weather conditions. In Spain, networks Ebitda fell 1.6% to €771 million due to lower recognised investments and €7 million cost resulting from storms during the period. The generation and retail business has been affected by a worsening operating situation in Spain, with lower water levels and higher taxes, as well as weaker performance in the United Kingdom; resulting in an Ebitda of €984 million (-19.7%). Performance has been very positive in Mexico, where Ebitda grew by 23.4% to $289.8 million, thanks to the additional operating capacity: 314-MW Baja California combined cycle for the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), over 300 MW from the Monterrey V combined cycle plant for private customers and the Ramos Arizpe cogeneration plant. The renewable business recorded €819 million Ebitda, down by 2% in a period marked by low wind power generation in Spain, which was largely compensated by the good performance in the United Kingdom and United States where Ebitda grew by 31.7% and 2.8%, respectively (in local currency). Higher prices and the revaluation of the Brazilian real have also boosted renewables business Ebitda in Latin America by 13%. Shareholder remuneration and confirmation of outlook Iberdrola has completed a new edition of the Iberdrola Flexible Dividend, what would have been the complementary dividend against 2016 earnings. The company has undertaken a purchase commitment of €0.147 gross per free allotment right, 18.5% more than the committed price in July 2016. This amount, added to the gross €0.03 per share paid in cash, make total dividend for the month of July €0.177 gross per share. Together with the €0.135 paid in January and the General Shareholders’ Meeting attendance premium of €0.005 gross per share, annual shareholder remuneration against 2016 earnings is €0.317 gross per share, up by 11% from the previous year. Expected business performance for the second half of the year allows for a similar net profit growth estimate and the continuation of the policy of increased shareholder remuneration in line with results. Meanwhile, Iberdrola keeps delivering on its 2016-2020 Outlook with over 90% of investments already committed and new growth projects beyond 2020 focused on renewables, storage, and transmission and distribution networks. Neoenergia–Elektro integration Neoenergia shareholders (Iberdrola, Previ and Banco do Brasil) have reached an agreement by which the company integrates Elektro’s business and activities, creating a leading utility in Brazil and Latin America which will be focused on networks and renewables. After completion, Iberdrola will hold a 52.45% stake in the resulting company that will have 13.4 million supply points and around 3,500 MW of contracted generation capacity in operation or under construction, mainly renewable energy. The operation preserves the financial strength of the group, with no cash outflow and no capital increase, while strengthening Iberdrola’s position in a reputed company. The transaction will be concluded after receiving the approval of the National Energy Agency (ANEEL) and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) estimated for August, having already secured the approval of the Administrative Council for Economic Defence (CADE).
