07/09/2017Iberdrola included again in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index utilities industry group Today, Iberdrola has been included again in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) utility industry group, the main international benchmark for measuring how companies contribute towards sustainable development. The company, which scored 91 points in the 2017 edition, continues to strengthen its position at the forefront of its industry in this new review of the ranking on the basis of an effective strategy that makes sustainability one of the pillars underpinning its operations. Thus, the DJSI acknowledges Iberdrola for its policies, which are geared towards combating climate change, investing in renewable energy, developing human capital, protecting biodiversity, engaging with stakeholders, managing the supply chain, attracting and retaining talent, and implementing solid codes of conduct. Also, it was once again ranked among the eight most sustainable electricity utilities in the world due to its strategic approach based on international growth and the development of renewable energies. Iberdrola owns and operates more than 28,200 MW of renewable generation capacity and is the world’s leading wind power company with an installed capacity of nearly 15,500 MW. Furthermore, Iberdrola is Europe’s only electricity utility to have been included in all 18 editions of the DJSI, a fact which proves its strong commitment towards sustainability and the effectiveness of its strategy in responding to the main economic, environmental and social challenges facing energy policy in the domestic and international spheres. Contribution to Sustainable Development Goals Iberdrola has incorporated the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030 to its business strategy and sustainability policy and has become a world benchmark for its direct contribution towards meeting the global targets, in particular in energy and climate change. To this end, the company is committed to guaranteeing universal access to safe, sustainable and clean energy, having become a global wind energy leader. Iberdrola runs the Electricity for All programme through which over 2.4 million people in developing nations have gained access to electricity supply and is poised to meet its 4 million target by 2020. On the other hand, Iberdrola is well known for its commitment to the fight against climate change through emissions reduction and advancing towards the decarbonisation of the economy. The company is bent on reducing the intensity of its CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030, compared to the 2007 levels, and becoming carbon-neutral by 2050. Given the characteristics of its generation mix, its investment profile and the commitments it has undertaken, Iberdrola is poised to become the electricity sector's standard for its contribution to the decarbonisation of the world economy and meeting the target of keeping the global temperature increase below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels. 06/09/2017Iberdrola has completed its sixth green bond issue worth €750 million Iberdrola has successfully completed a green bond issue on the Euromarket, with proceeds earmarked to finance and refinance investments in onshore wind farms in the United Kingdom and an offshore wind farm in Germany (Wikinger, which the company is developing in German waters of the Baltic Sea). The issue amounted to €750 million and will mature in September 2027. The coupon has been set at 1.25%, which was made possible by achieving a 58 basis point spread over the mid-swap. The cost of the operation is very competitive in light of the volume reached and current market climate, characterised by the uncertainty over interest rate trends, current geopolitical risks and the concerns pervading the market regarding the upcoming monetary policy decisions (the European Central Bank is scheduled to meet tomorrow). The operation was nevertheless executed satisfactorily, underpinned by strong interest from fixed income investors and its green nature. The operation has improved the conditions of Iberdrola's most recent issue this past February, since it was able to close without paying any additional new issue premium compared with the theoretical listing level on the secondary market. Iberdrola thus continues making headway in its strategy to make a large proportion of its liability 'green', in accordance with the company's commitment to a low-carbon energy mix. The Group was the world's largest green issuer at company level in 2016. The demand for today's operation exceeded €2,200 million in the initial phase, thereby allowing placement to be increased to €750 million, which was initially scheduled for €500 million. Over 150 investors will be taking part in the issue. Accordingly, green bonds tend to generate greater demand since they attract the interest of Socially Responsible Investors (SRI). Indeed, a large part of the operation has been subscribed across investors of this sort, enabling Iberdrola to continue diversifying its investment base while increasing demand, which enhances the execution of such operations during volatile periods of trading. A key feature of green bonds is that the funds obtained are used for financing sustainable and socially responsible projects, a use that is certified by an independent validating agency, namely Vigeo Eiris. Today's issue is Iberdrola's sixth public issue of this type and builds on the success attained both in April 2014, when the company became the first Spanish company to complete a placement of green bonds and the issues made subsequently: April, September and December 2016, and February 2017. The group also reached an agreement with BBVA towards the end of 2016 for the world's first green loan for a power utility, worth €500 million. By doing so, Iberdrola solidifies its role as the international bellwether for financing of this sort. Similar to the bond issued today, Vigeo then acknowledged that the projects for which the obtained resources will be used are in line with the following UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which Iberdrola has incorporated into its strategy: number 7 - Clean, Affordable Energy - and number 12 - Responsible Production and Consumption. 25/08/2017Neoenergia incorporates Elektro Holding after shareholder approval The Iberdrola Group has completed one of the most important corporate operations ever with the incorporation in Brazil of all Elektro Holding’s businesses into Neoenergia, after the approval by shareholders of both companies. The deal had previously obtained, in a much shorter time frame than usual, the green light to complete the operation from CADE (Administrative Council for Economic Defence), Aneel (National Electricity Energy Agency) and BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development). In June, Neoenergia’s shareholders had signed an agreement by which the company would incorporate the activity and the businesses of Elektro, Iberdrola's Brazilian subsidiary[2]. After completion of the operation, the chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, restated “the commitment of Iberdrola with Brazil, Latin America’s largest economy”, a country where the company operates for more than 20 years, adding that “the group is very confident about the future of Brazil”. Proof of this can be seen in Iberdrola’s medium and long-term investment plans in that country. “In all these years, Iberdrola has invested more than R$52.5 billion (€13.6 billion),” pointed Galán, saying that “we are executing works and completing investments in networks, regulated generation and renewable energy, and we will continue to invest in Brazil. Only last year supply contracts for R$5 billion (€1.27 billion) to over 8,000 Brazilian suppliers were awarded by Iberdrola group.” The resulting company - which brings together Neoenergia and Elektro’s electricity distribution, transmission, generation and retail assets and services – has the following shareholder structure: 52.45% controlled by Iberdrola, 38.21% by Previ and 9.35% by Banco de Brasil. The agreement between the partners includes Iberdrola’s commitment to float the new company on the stock exchange. Structure of the operation The transaction is being carried out as an incorporação (incorporation): Neoenergia will execute a capital increase to be fully subscribed by Iberdrola. The Bilbao-based company hands over the assets of Elektro in return for the increase in its holding in the new company. The three owners of Neoenergia have signed a new shareholders' agreement which includes: approval of certain reserved matters by reinforced majority; limitations on transfers of the company’s shares; the right of Iberdrola to appoint the majority of the members of the new company’s Board of Directors; and a commitment by Iberdrola to channel all its investments in Brazil through it. The leading electricity company in Brazil This operation creates the largest electricity utility in Brazil and a leading operator in Latin America by number of customers with 13.4 million to whom it distributed 54.000 GWh in 2016. It will serve an area with a population of over 34 million people, compared to the 18 million population of Iberdrola's area of influence in Spain. Its concession area will cover 836,000 square kilometres, compared to Iberdrola's 190,000 square kilometres in Spain, while its distribution network will stretch over 585,000 kilometres, as against 268,000 kilometres in the case of Spain. The new company, which is mainly regulated, is also present in wind energy – through Força Eólica do Brasil – and hydroelectric generation, with attributable capacity of 2,080 megawatts (MW) and 1,460 MW in development, as well as in the thermoelectric generation sector, with an operating capacity of 530 MW. The new Neoenergia will have a regulated asset base of approximately R$ 14 billion (€3.65 billion). Combining Elektro and Neoenergia’s figures for 2016, the company would have generated revenue of around R$30 billion (€7.93 billion). Gross operating profit (EBITDA) would have been around R$3.6 billion (€934 million). READ MORE

16/08/2017Iberdrola will reach 1,000 renewable megawatts in Mexico in 2019 Iberdrola is currently building renewable facilities in Mexico which will enable it to reach 1,000 megawatts (MW) of installed power in 2019. To do so, the company is building 600 MW in new wind and photovoltaic farms in different Mexican states, with an investment of 780 million dollars, which is the highest amount destined so far by Iberdrola to the renewable energy sector in Latin America. Specifically, it is building 325 wind MW in the states of Puebla and Guanajuanto and 275 photovoltaic MW in San Luis de Potosí and Sonora. The wind farms currently under construction are PIER, with 220 MW of capacity and located in the state of Puebla, which will be the next phase of the PIER II project currently operating, and Santiago Eólico, with 105 MW, located in Guanajuanto. Both projects are expected to be commissioned in 2019. Iberdrola will build the 105 MW Hermosillo photovoltaic farm in Sonora, and the 170 MW Santaigo photovoltaic farm in San Luís de Potosí. Both are expected to be operational at the end of 2018. These facilities will be Iberdrola's first venture into the area of large scale photovoltaic energy, given the installed capacity they will have. Iberdrola chose Mexico for this new renewable energy commitment due to its excellent regulatory conditions and its solar resource. Iberdrola is developing these four wind and solar energy projects under the framework of long-term contracts (PPAs) with private industrial customers, which the company will provide the generated power to and the Clean Energy Certificates associated with these renewable energy facilities. In addition to these renewable energy farms under construction, Iberdrola already has 366 wind MW distributed between the La Ventosa farm (201 MW), La Venta III farm (102 MW), Bii Nee Stipa farm (26 MW), Pier II farm (66 MW) and Dos Arbolitos farm (70 MW). Iberdrola, firmly committed to Mexico Since the end of the nineties until now, Iberdrola Mexico has constantly increased its investments and activities on a continuous basis in Mexico, which is considered one of the strategic countries for its internationalisation process. Today in Mexico, Iberdrola has an installed capacity of 6,000 (MW) from seven combined cycle power plants and five wind farms, and its production is capable of providing service to a population of twenty million Mexicans. Iberdrola currently has conventional energy generation projects underway in Mexico with a combined investment of over US$ 3 billion, which means that the company’s commitment to this country is one of the most important international commitments it has ever undertaken. To be more specific, it is building four new combined cycle farms (Baja California III, Noreste and Escobedo II in Monterrey, and Noroeste in Sinaloa), and two cogeneration plants (Bajío in Querétaro and Altamira in Tamaulipas). Mexico is one of the strategic countries in Iberdrola’s internationalisation process. The company expects to have a total capacity of almost 10,000 MW in 2020. The company employs more than 700 people in Mexico with whom it carries out a broad training programme to which it dedicates between 3 and 4 percent of the working hours. Iberdrola Mexico's fast growth is the result of a human and technical effort that has required a great leadership and teamwork ability. READ MORE

10/08/2017Iberdrola already covers all of its residential customers in Spain (7.35 million) against the interruption in the energy supply Iberdrola already covers the interruption of the electricity and/or gas supply when economically disadvantaged residential customers (7.35 million) in Spain fail to pay their bills, as part of the different agreements signed with Public Administrations, NGOs and associations or the procedure implemented by the company in 2015 to protect vulnerable customers, as proof of its commitment to the most economically disadvantaged citizens of our country. The company, which already protects all of its customers, has undertaken to pay attention to customers in a situation of vulnerability and collaborate, according to the policies established by the competent Public Administrations in each case, to facilitate ongoing access to electricity and gas supply. Since the end of July 2015, Iberdrola has signed 53 agreements with autonomous communities, federations of municipalities and provinces, city and town councils, NGOs and associations to protect these customers: * Castilla y León –and the Regional Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FRMP) of this region–, Autonomous Community of Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha, Autonomous Community of Madrid, Galicia, Basque Country, Navarre, Aragón, Cantabria, Andalusia, Region of Murcia, the Federation of Municipalities and Provinces of Galicia (FEGAMP), Extremadura –and the Federation of Municipalities and Provinces of Extremadura (FEMPEX)–, on the one hand; * Bilbao, Castellón, Vitoria, Alicante, Valencia, Metropolitan area of Barcelona (AMB), Almassora, Elche, Cáceres, Logroño, Torrevieja, Talavera de la Reina, Gijón, La Unión, Caravaca, Joint Community of Services of the North East of Murcia, San Sebastián, Cehegín, Seville, A Coruña, Torre Pacheco, Irún, Lasarte, Salamanca, Calahorra and Lorquí, on the other hand; * In addition, the Red Cross of Murcia, Cáritas of Murcia, Cáritas of Plasencia, Red Cross of La Rioja, Cáritas of Coria-Cáceres, Red Cross of Extremadura, Red Cross of the Canary Islands, Cáritas Diocesana of Menorca, Red Cross of the Balearic Islands, Red Cross of Galicia, Red Cross of Catalonia, Accem Asturias and Accem Madrid. * And, finally, the Unión Democrática de Pensionistas y Jubilados (UDP- Democratic Union of Pensioners and the Retired). The company covers all customers for whom Iberdrola is already supplying electricity and/or gas to their primary residence and which are classified as customers in vulnerable circumstances. This firm commitment of Iberdrola, which is part of its commitment to the principles of solidarity and service to the community, is the result of the company's approval and application in 2015 of a procedure for protecting economically vulnerable customers in Spain, in keeping with the Group’s General Policy on Corporate Social Responsibility The goal of this policy, promoted by the Board of Directors of Iberdrola, is to set out the basic principles and the general framework of action for managing the corporate social responsibility practices undertaken by the company. It is also intended to serve as the basis for building social responsibility into the Group’s business model and strategy. READ MORE

08/08/2017Iberdrola will add another 600 megawatts of renewable energy in the United States before the end of the year Iberdrola, through its American subsidiary AVANGRID Renewables, is currently building four wind farms and a photovoltaic plant in the USA, which will add almost 600 megawatts (MW) of capacity expected to be commissioned before the end of the year. The wind farms are Tule, with a capacity of 131.10 MW, in Deerfield, California, with 30 MW (Vermont); Twin Buttes II (Colorado), with 75 MW, and El Cabo (New Mexico), with 298.2 MW. Also, construction of a 56 MW photovoltaic plant in Prineville, Oregon, to be called Gala, is in the initial stages. With the new capacity under development, Iberdrola intends to consolidate its position in the USA, where it is the third largest wind power company. It is already making unprecedented investments in the Spanish renewable energy industry. For most of these facilities, Iberdrola has signed contracts with local North American companies to supply power in the long term, which is one of the secrets of its success in the United States. These contracts, which are known in the United States as Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), guarantee the profitability of energy facilities in the country over a long period of time. Under these contracts, Iberdrola is the owner and operator of the wind farm that it has built and the electricity generated is distributed to the company it has the agreement with. These agreements have been signed for most of Iberdrola’s wind farms in the US. They have provided great stability to the company’s investments in this strategic market, which is one of the most important reasons for its commitment to the US. In recent months, Iberdrola has signed agreements with some emblematic North American multinationals, which have entrusted the company with supplying green energy to their facilities from its wind farms. Iberdrola has been operating in the United States since the end of 2015, through the AVANGRID company, fruit of the friendly integration between Iberdrola USA and UIL Holdings Corporation. AVANGRID is listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the ticker AGR. Its headquarters are in New Haven (Connecticut), and its operations span 25 US States, with assets worth US$31 billion. AVANGRID’s presence in the renewables sector in the United States is one of the largest international commitments ever undertaken by a Spanish company to date. Its involvement in clean generation in the country has led it to be the third largest wind operator in the country, with about 6,200 MW in installed wind power. In recent years, AVANGRID has built some of the most emblematic facilities in the sector in the United States. For example, the Peñascal complex is its largest wind power facility in the world with a capacity of 606 MW. READ MORE
