25/04/2025 - 10:54 UTC +02:00ScottishPower contracts three new vessels to build East Anglia Three ScottishPower Renewables, the Iberdrola Group’s renewable subsidiary in the UK , has signed agreements worth almost €19 M with two Norfolk-based maritime companies, NR Marine Services and OEG, to supply three vessels to support construction of its East Anglia Three offshore wind farm in British North Sea waters. The three new vessels will operate from the port of Lowestoft, located in the coastal region of East Anglia, where ScottishPower is developing some of biggest offshore wind projects in the world and where the company has an important offshore operations and maintenance base. NR Marine Services will provide two crew transport vessels, the NR Rebellion and the NR Hunter. OEG will provide the support vessel Tess for surveillance operations. 24/04/2025 - 13:53 UTC +02:00Ignacio Galán at IEA Summit on the Future of Energy Security: “Electrification is unstoppable, and electrification means security.” Iberdrola Executive Chairman Ignacio Galán today joined UK Prime Minister Rt Hon Keir Starmer MP and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the International Energy Agency (IEA) Summit on the Future of Energy Security, hosted by the UK Government in London. The landmark Summit, jointly sponsored by Iberdrola and its UK company ScottishPower, convened government and industry leaders from over 60 countries to advance action to map and shape the future of energy security. Co-hosted by Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, United Kingdom and Dr Fatih Birol, IEA Executive Director, the Summit focused on progressing the development of a new draft framework for energy security to address the challenges the world faces. Speaking in the opening Plenary Session, Mr Galán said that the continued focus on electrification was critical to delivering energy security globally. Iberdrola, as one of the two largest electricity utilities in the world and the largest in Europe, will continue to play its part in supporting governments to deliver on that for their people. He said: “My message is very clear: electrification is unstoppable, and electrification means energy security. With global electricity demand set to double by 2050, investment in networks, both transmission and distribution, generation and storage is more urgent than ever. “To achieve a clean, secure and competitive energy source, countries require strong energy policies, attractive returns, faster permitting processes and the rationalization of energy taxation. Creating these conditions will be key to attracting investment and reducing volatility and dependence.” Iberdrola’s role in the Summit demonstrates an ongoing commitment to delivering clean energy and energy security in the UK and around the world. Iberdrola is the largest utility in Europe, with a market capitalization of £85 billion, and serves 100 million people worldwide thanks to a diversified portfolio of businesses across the electricity value chain in the UK, the US, Spain, France, Germany, Brazil and Australia. In the UK , Iberdrola is investing £24 billion up to 2028 through ScottishPower, mainly in transmission and distribution networks and offshore wind. Overall, the Group is dedicating around 70% of its investments to power networks to accelerate electrification as a way to increase energy security and competitiveness, create new industries and jobs, and improve sustainability. 24/04/2025 - 08:00 UTC +02:00Iberdrola and Kansai close their offshore wind alliance with the investment of 1,280 million euros in the Baltic Sea Iberdrola has closed a strategic agreement with Kansai, Japan's second largest electricity company and one of the largest in Asia, to co-invest in the 315 MW German offshore wind farm Windanker , located in the Baltic Sea. After obtaining all the necessary regulatory approvals, Iberdrola will have a majority stake of 51% in the assets and thus accelerates energy independence in Europe. According to the terms of the operation, the valuation of 100% of this wind farm amounts to around 1,280 million euros. Iberdrola will control and manage the assets, providing operation and maintenance services and other corporate services. In addition, both companies are partners in Electricity North West (ENW) , an electricity distribution company in the United Kingdom, where Iberdrola acquired 88% last October, with the remaining 12% owned by a consortium led by Kansai. Last February, Ignacio Galán, executive chairman of Iberdrola, and Toru Kuwahara, executive vice president of Kansai, announced the expansion of their strategic alliance with the aim of accelerating electrification globally. This collaboration will focus on various power grid and renewable energy projects in different countries Windanker will have 21 wind turbines with a unit capacity of 15 MW and will be operational in the last quarter of 2026. 23/04/2025 - 16:43 UTC +02:00Neoenergia Sells 50% of Itabapoana Transmission Neoenergia has reached an agreement to sell 50% of its stake in the Itabapoana transmission asset to GIC. The transaction is valued at R$ 127.5 million, subject to usual adjustments until the transaction is completed. The asset will be contributed to Neoenergia Transmissão, a holding of transmission assets, which has had a 50% stake from GIC, since April 2023. At the end of the transaction, the capital structure of Neoenergia Transmission will continue to be: Neoenergia with 50% and GIC with 50%. The deal is another step in Neoenergia's asset rotation plan, which always seeks to capture the best market opportunities. It also represents the evolution of successful cooperation with GIC bringing more robustness to the group's plans for transmission investments. 23/04/2025 - 13:06 UTC +02:00Avangrid extended to its power agreement with CPS Energy in the US Avangrid, Iberdrola's US subsidiary , has extended its long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with CPS Energy, the country's largest municipal electricity and natural gas utility provider. Under the agreement, the Peñascal wind farm will add an additional 159.2 MW, doubling the contract from 160.8 MW to 320 MW. The additional energy capacity will help supply power to around 40,000 new homes. Avangrid owns and operates seven renewable facilities in Texas, including the recently completed True North Solar project in Falls County. These plants have a combined operating capacity of nearly 1.6 gigawatts (GW), capable of supplying clean energy to approximately 400,000 homes, and have contributed more than $115 M in property taxes over their lifetime. In 2015, the company was a pioneer in offering its customers self-consumption. Since more than two-thirds of the country's population lives in high-rise buildings, in 2019, it launched solar communities, a solution that gives any neighbour located less than 2 km from an installation access 100% renewable energy. Iberdrola's solar communities allow you to enjoy all the benefits of solar energy without the need to have photovoltaic panels on your own roofs or rooftops, or to make any investment, as it is the company that is responsible for carrying out the installation and finding the best location. Of the locations with the most Iberdrola solar communities, Madrid is in first place with 170 installations, followed by the Valencian Community (148). Meanwhile, Extremadura, with more than 19,000 families, is the region in which the largest number of households can have access to self-consumption through this solution. The more than 1,000 solar communities implemented by Iberdrola save customers up to 30% on their electricity bills, which adds to the benefit of reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Each solar community will prevent the release of around 640 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next 30 years, which improves the air quality of the places where they are installed. 21/04/2025 - 14:12 UTC +02:00Avangrid progesses with its projects in the United States Iberdrola, through its subsidiary Avangrid , has started commercial operation of its True North Solar photovoltaic plant and has begun exporting energy to the grid with its Camino and Powell Creek solar farms in the United States. The company is taking another step forward in its strategy of investing in renewable technologies, making the supply of reliable energy to the grid possible in the countries where it is present and helping them to move towards energy independence, driving their economies. With more than 488,000 solar panels and 321 MW, True North Solar is capable of supplying nearly 60,000 US families, equivalent to a city like Newcastle, making it the company's largest photovoltaic project in the United States and positioning Texas as the leading state in renewable energy production. The project involved an investment of $369 M (more than €340 M at current exchange rates), and has created 300 jobs during its construction peak, most of them filled by local residents. For its part, with 105,000 panels, Camino Solar, located in California, will enter commercial operation at the end of this spring, providing access to clean energy to 14,000 homes, equivalent to the population of Portland, Maine. The park has involved an investment of €100 M (more than €90 M) and the creation of 100 jobs, almost all of them local. Powell Creek in Ohio, with 300,000 panels and 200 MW, it is capable of supplying reliable, local energy to 30,000 homes, which is a population close to that of Flint, Michigan. This is the company's second project in the state, after building Blue Creek in 2012, which, with 304 MW, now generates enough energy for around 76,000 homes a year. To carry out these developments, Avangrid has relied on US companies during their construction, contributing to the economic growth of the country. In addition, Camino Solar has brought in $15 M in state taxes (about €14 M), Powell Creek $31 M (more than €27 M) and True North Solar more than $40 M (more than €37 M) directly benefiting public services and their surrounding communities, especially schools. True North Solar has contributed to the purchase of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and learning materials, materials for teachers, buses for students, upgraded sports facilities for school children and the wider community, helping to improve local wellbeing. Texas, leader in renewables in the United States Avangrid has been operating in Texas for more than 15 years and, with True North's production, the company now has seven projects and a combined installed capacity of almost 1.6 GW. Together, the company's projects have provided the southern US state with direct investment of $2 B (more than €1.85 B), 65 full-time jobs and $118 M (nearly €110 M) in taxes since 2009, helping to improve public services for its residents. True North feeds electricity into the Texas grid and supports the operations of Meta, with which the company signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). In addition, True North Solar will also supply power to Meta's upcoming data centre in Temple, Texas. According to a recent US Department of Energy report, data centres could increase the country's energy consumption by 12% by 2028, which is three times 2024 levels. Projects like True North Solar are critical to support this growth in demand while ensuring that local communities have locally produced, clean and reliable power for their homes and businesses. 16/04/2025 - 13:17 UTC +02:00ScottishPower awards HSM Offshore Energy the construction of the substation for its East Anglia Two offshore wind farm ScottishPower Renewables, Iberdrola's renewable subsidiary in the UK , has awarded HSM Offshore Energy a contract for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the offshore substation for its East Anglia Two wind farm in North Sea waters and the jacket foundation on which it will be placed. The high-voltage offshore substation will weigh around 5,100 tonnes and its jacket foundation will weigh another 3,700 tonnes. Its job will be to collect the electricity generated by the wind turbines, transform the voltage and carry it on submarine cables to the onshore transmission grid. Construction is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the jacket foundation ready for installation in the third quarter of 2027 and the top of the substation by the end of 2027. The 960 MW East Anglia Two offshore wind farm will be located in the southern North Sea, approximately 33 km off the Suffolk coast at its closest point to Southwold and 37 km from Lowestoft, where ScottishPower has its offshore wind operations and maintenance base. When operational, it will produce enough clean energy to power the equivalent of almost one million homes.
