Iberdrola España and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia renew their collaboration in the Smart Grids Innovation Hub

Iberdrola España, the Group's subsidiary in the country, and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia have renewed their collaboration agreement for the development of the Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub (GSGIH) as a sign of their mutual commitment to innovation and the digitalisation of smart grids.

The GSGIH is a collaborative working environment, located in Bilbao and inaugurated in 2021, which connects both parties with suppliers, start-ups, technology centres and universities. The hub was created with the aim of using innovation as a lever to continue driving the electrification of the economy and the quality of service to customers connected to the networks, through solutions that strengthen their robustness, resilience, flexibility and security.

Since the Hub was created five years ago, innovative activity at i -DE, the distributor of the Iberdrola Group's subsidiary in Spain, has grown by 55% compared to the previous period, reaching over €40 million per year, contributing to the competitiveness of the region by driving the value chain and Iberdrola's position as the world's leading utility in terms of R&D&I investment.
