Q

  • Qualified investor
Entity or individual who invests large volumes of funds in securities markets, such that better trading conditions may be obtained. Regulations generally afford them lower levels of protection than to small investors because, due to their institutional or professional nature, they have sufficient knowledge and experience to assess the risks they assume and to make their own investment decisions. Qualified investors include institutional investors (banks and savings associations, insurance companies, mutual fund managers, pension fund managers, mutual funds, and investment companies, among others), small enterprises, and individuals who request to be considered as qualified investors provided that they satisfy certain requirements.
