This agreement will enable the company's 35 cinemas in 11 autonomous communities to operate with 100% renewable electricity, which will prevent the emission of 10,089 tonnes of CO2 over the next three years, the equivalent of what could be absorbed by a forest with 1,008,900 trees. The agreement extends to the big screen the environmental benefits of the 'Iberdrola Green Theatres' initiative under which Iberdrola España already provides green energy to 16 emblematic theatres in Madrid, consolidating its commitment to decarbonisation and sustainable entertainment. 05/02/2025 - 13:26 UTC +01:00Iberdrola and CCR Group seal deal for clean and efficient energy supply in Brazil Neoenergia , Iberdrola's subsidiary in Brazil, and the CCR Group have signed a strategic agreement whereby the mobility infrastructure company will obtain clean energy from the Neoenergia Oitis wind power complex, located between the Brazilian states of Piauí and Bahia. Under the agreement, the clean energy generated by the Oitis 2, Oitis 4 and Oitis 6 plants will supply 60% of the CCR Group's current demand. This is the first project of this kind for the company that operates the São Paulo metro lines and the São Paulo Metropolitan Trains Company (CPTM). In total, 44 megawatts (MW) of Oitis' production will be used for the energy consumption of CCR's subsidiaries over 16 years. In this self-production model, the energy-consuming company buys shares or invests in a plant together with the power company. This ensures incentives that cut costs. 04/02/2025 - 16:34 UTC +01:00Avangrid guarantees supply to more than 1 M homes and businesses during the latest cold snap in the US Avangrid, Iberdrola's US company , provides electricity from its energy assets located throughout the country, even during the coldest winter months. Avangrid provided power and heat during the historically cold temperatures that affected much of the central part of the country last week. The company has more than 30 power facilities located between the Rockies and the Appalachian Mountains, with a combined installed capacity of more than 4.5 gigawatts (GW), which have provided power to families and businesses that rely on it every day. Together, these facilities are capable of producing enough energy to power the equivalent of approximately 1 M homes. In addition to being there when they are needed most, these facilities are important economic drivers in the communities, paying rent on land and providing critical tax revenues to strengthen a variety of public services, including schools. 03/02/2025 - 17:11 UTC +01:00Ignacio Galán holds a meeting with the President of the Valencian Government The Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán , held a meeting with the president of the Valencian Government, Carlos Mazón, to analyse the work being done to refit the areas affected by the cold drop. During the meeting, Mazón and Galán discussed the il-lumina project, through which the company is going to invest €100 M in the region to redesign the electricity distribution grid and make it more resilient and robust. The president has valued the business’ investment "in our region to speed up the economic and social development of Valencia in such a fundamental issue like power and contribute to rebuilding the areas affected by the floods". Mazón thanked the Iberdrola employees for the work carried out after the floods to help residents get back to normal. The company mobilised more than 500 workers from different parts of the country to restore service to the approximately 180,000 customers affected, managing to restore it to 100% in just 72 hours. Ignacio Galán conveyed "Iberdrola's firm commitment to this region and to the well-being of its residents", a land the company has had a close relationship to since its founding almost 125 years ago and where its management committee met today. The impact of the company's activity in the Valencia Region amounted to €875 M in 2023 and its fiscal contribution was more than €320 M. Iberdrola invested more than €265 M and purchased €185 M from 422 local suppliers. 03/02/2025Iberdrola and Amazon further expand their global renewable energy partnership and harness the AWS cloud to scale Iberdrola’s business Madrid/Lisbon, 03 February 2025: Amazon and Iberdrola, one of the world’s largest clean energy companies, have added an additional 476 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy PPAs (power purchase agreements) to their global renewable energy partnership, expanding its presence into five countries. The new power purchase agreements include Amazon’s first PPA in Portugal for 219 MW from the Tâmega Wind Complex, the largest wind farm in Portugal, scheduled to begin construction in early 2025. The partnership also expanded into Spain, with two utility scale PPAs agreed for a total 257 MW of solar and wind energy. The three projects are equivalent to 1,093 GWh of carbon- free electricity per year, enough to power the equivalent of around 300,000 homes per year. Iberdrola and Amazon have extended their strategic partnership, originally signed in 2022 for renewable energy PPAs and cloud services, with the new agreement enabling both parties to collaborate on additional projects in existing and new markets. In total, Amazon has now contracted more than 66,000 GWh of renewable energy from Iberdrola worldwide over the lifetime of all signed PPA agreements. In August 2024, Iberdrola selected AWS as its preferred cloud provider for generative artificial intelligence (AI) workloads, as part of their global collaboration. Utilising AWS’s AI capabilities, Iberdrola’s distribution business is now innovating to improve the grid connection process for new points of supply. Iberdrola’s Renewables business is optimizing its windfarm design process by leveraging the compute power of the AWS Cloud to simulate wake effects and further improve the layout of wind turbines. Iberdrola is also using Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) High Performance Computing (HPC) to improve weather forecasting simulations performance across its 400 windfarms globally. Other innovative initiatives planned for 2025 include building a Virtual Desktop as a Service platform on AWS, with services like Amazon WorkSpaces, and deploying an AWS Landing Zone to support the migration of critical workloads to the AWS Region in Spain. In detail, the new PPA agreements include: * 219 MW has been contracted by Amazon at the Tâmega Wind Complex. It is the largest green hybridisation project in the country, designed to make efficient use of the grid connection point already built at the Tâmega hydroelectric complex. With a total investment by Iberdrola of around €350 million, the 274 MW project will power the equivalent consumption of 128,000 households per year and create over 700 jobs at the peak of construction. * Amazon will purchase 212 MW capacity at the Ciudad Rodrigo solar PV plant in Salamanca, in Western Spain. In total, the project will produce clean energy to supply the equivalent of 150,000 homes per year. With an investment of close to €200 million by Iberdrola, more than 800 jobs will be supported during peak construction periods. As part of the project, Iberdrola has made a commitment to Ciudad Rodrigo municipality to support restoration of the Plaza Amayuelas town square to make it once again a space for the whole community to enjoy. * Additionally, the output from 45 MW from the Valdemoro wind farm located in the province of Burgos, will be purchased. With an installed capacity of 49.5 MW, capable of supplying the equivalent of 48,000 households, the project is made up of eleven wind turbines, with a height of 107.5 metres and a rotor diameter of 145 metres. During peak construction the project will support 145 jobs, around 40% will be drawn from local contractors. The commitment to securing renewable energy PPAs helps Amazon match the electricity consumed by its operations with 100% renewable energy, as part of its goal reach net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040. With more than 600 solar and wind projects globally, Amazon is the world's (and Spain's) largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy according to Bloomberg NEF for the fifth year running. Iberdrola has been announced as the top seller of PPAs in Europe for a second consecutive year, according to the Pexapark Renewables Market Outlook 2025 report. 01/02/2025 - 09:01 UTC +01:00Iberdrola France inaugurates the operation and maintenance base for the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm Iberdrola France , Iberdrola's international business company in France inaugurated the operation and maintenance (M&O) centre in Saint-Brieuc, where 80 people will work. The offshore wind farm is part of the strategic challenges of energy independence, decarbonisation and industrial renewal in France. The centre in Binic-Établesm controls and manages the electricity production and maintenance of the farm 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, playing a crucial role in its performance to ensure continuous and reliable production of renewable energy. Initially, part of the activity will be carried out in coordination with teams from the Goëlo Enabler service vessel (SOV) based out of the port of Saint-Malo. In a second phase, they will be transferred to the port of Armor in Saint-Quay-Portrieux. After consultation with the users and local stakeholders involved, the port of Saint-Quay-Portrieux will accommodate the vessels responsible for daily maintenance. To do so, the port development works will be financed by Iberdrola for the benefit of the department of Côtes-d'Armor, owner of the port and responsible for the project’s implementation. With its 62 wind turbines installed over 75 km², the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm , with a total capacity of 496 MW, produces about 1,820 GWh/year, or around 9% of Brittany's electricity consumption, the equivalent of 835,000 people. An eco-responsible and efficient building The operation and maintenance base is distinguished by its state-of-the-art green facilities. The operational centre’s car park is equipped with a 113.1 kWp solar screen (260 solar panels) producing about 110 MWh/year. 31/01/2025Iberdrola breaks distributed energy record from demand recovery and electrification Iberdrola continues to advance in its commitment to electrification as the only way to reduce energy dependence and improve the economy’s competitiveness. Europe's leading electricity company in terms of market capitalisation breaks its record for distributed electricity - the energy that the company transmits over its grids - in 2024 with 238,164 GWh, 1.9% more than in 2023, as reported to the Spanish National Securities Market Commission. The electricity distribution business ’ solid performance is due to the recovery of electricity demand in all areas where the company operates electricity grids in Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and Brazil and to electrification. The increase in electricity demand also boosted Iberdrola's renewable production, which also reached a record high of 83,300 GWh, 5% more than the previous year. The company's total production stood at 132,499 GWh (-21.4%), taking into account that the sale of 8,500 MW of combined cycle plants in Mexico was completed in the first quarter of 2024. In addition to the two previous milestones, the company's renewable capacity will also end 2024 at a historic 44,478 MW, after adding 2,440 MW of new capacity in the last 12 months. This triple record obtained by Iberdrola in electricity distribution, renewable generation and installed green capacity is due to its investments, which accelerate the deployment of electricity grids and renewable energies, especially manageable technologies such as pumped storage . Commitment to electrification Given the company's commitment to renewable energies , the Group generates 100% emission-free energy in countries such as the United Kingdom, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Greece. Emissions-free production is at 90% in Spain. This positive performance of the energy balance is part of the company's roadmap, which plans to continue promoting electrification as the only way to achieve energy autonomy and, consequently, greater energy and economic efficiency for all consumers. For more than two decades, Iberdrola has taken the initiative to transform the energy sector with investments that have already exceeded €160 B in that period. And the aim is to continue to contribute to this end in the future, with investments that will reach €46 B - the €41 B announced in the strategic plan plus the €5 B from ENW - and could reach €100 B in the coming years.
